Conservative billionaires Charles and David Koch have been two of the biggest financial backers of efforts to impede President Obamas agenda. During a Friday speech, the president called out the two major right-wing donors over their efforts to undermine the Affordable Care Act.
Obama was referring to the now-famous Creepy Uncle Sam ads put out by Generation Opportunity, which has financial ties to the Koch Brothers. The commercials, featuring a puppet Uncle Sam about to perform intimate medical procedures on a young man and woman, urge millennials to opt out of Obamacare.

(26,449 posts)I know it seems picayune, but we are not buying healthcare, but are buying insurance, which may or may not pay entirely for healthcare.
For the paycheck to paycheck folk, a deductible means that sickness will bring financial hardship. They will choose between that pain and using the insurance.
Don't get me wrong, it is an improvement, and I'm happy to see Obama speaking out, but this just gets a bit under my skin.

(8,434 posts)I've recently been going through a lot of medical needs. Luckily I do have health insurance which has eased the blow, but I'm still going to have a lot of money come out of pocket.
I'm tired of the ACA being referred to as healthcare. Healthcare is what a doctor provides. The ACA is health insurance, not health care.

(21,475 posts)Yes is is just Insurance but without Insurance you have no ACCESS at all unless you are wealthy.

(153,193 posts)insurance deductibles may still make that actual access cost-prohibitive for some

(8,434 posts)I started having problems with my knee and leg. Without going into details, it was a full week before I finally went for care. I still have no idea how I'll pay off the bills as they hit the mailbox. I would have had the same exact access without insurance, I would just have 3 times the bills coming at me. I'm screwed financially either way.

(153,193 posts)I'm going with the sentiment that Obamacare leaves much to be desired but it's a start in the sense that we really need to move health insurance away from being tied to employment
Insurance needs to be completely eliminated.
There should not be any industry or corporation making a profit that does not directly provide medical aide or supplies.
It is completely insane that a middle man gets a skim without providing ANY medical care or products.

understand the difference between an insurance plan paying my medical bills and a doctor performing an invasive procedure.
I'm with you. The good news is, I don't think too many people are falling for it.

(20,219 posts)It's kind of hard to say....I guess I'm only seeing a pretty small sample. I *hope* not many are fooled. And that they have long enough memories to know about that lil ol' repuke sponsored probe thingy goin' on there...

(26,636 posts)They have to go through far more invasive and intimate procedures than young people do. They've got Uncle Sam all up in their vaginas and penises and prostates and colons. Shouldn't any self respecting older person reject that sort of government intrusion, and shouldn't the Koch brothers be helping them to understand how severely they're being violated?
Why the inconsistency?
