Attorney general meets with JPMorgan's Dimon

JPMorgan chief executive Jamie Dimon met Thursday with Attorney General Eric Holder about an investigation into the company's handling of mortgage-backed securities in the run-up to the recession.

Holder declined to characterize the discussions, but a government official familiar with ongoing negotiations said an $11 billion national settlement is under review to resolve claims against JPMorgan.

"I did meet with representatives of JPMorgan," the attorney general said during a news conference being held on another topic.

"We have matters that are under investigation. I expect to be making further announcements in the coming weeks, the coming months," Holder said. His comment was a general reference to probes the Justice Department has been carrying out for several years involving some of the nation's largest financial institutions, including JPMorgan.

Before and after the meeting with Holder, Dimon declined to answer when asked about the state of the discussions.

I was curious as to how and when this would happen.
But even more curious as to how JP will be able to actually come up with any money, assuming their will be actuall fines and this is not another book keeping game.

to federal marshals to begin serving his prison sentence. But we know better, don't we?

My guess is that they were either (1) negotiating the fine ("Is $11 billion too much, Jamie? We can lower it, if you want. Just tell me how much you want to pay.&quot or (2) conducting an informal interview for Holder's post-Washington career. Maybe both at the same time.

What, ME cynical?

is between the AG's foot and Dimon's nuts. Make it a weekly meeting and schedule it up on Outlook.
