I keep hearing Cuban Canadian Rafael Cruz on my TV saying Democrats and the President refuse to negotiate. The problem is Democrats aren't demanding anything so they have nothing to negotiate. Keeping the government operating is not a Democratic demand, it's the responsibility of congress as outlined in the Constitution. Harry Reid should send back to the House a CR with amendments that mandate federal background checks for ALL fire arms purchases and legalizes gay marriage in every state, two issues that are overwhelmingly supported by the American people. Then let the negotiations begin.

That includes all oil&gas subsidies, all Bush era tax cuts, 95% cut on Department of Defense and Homeland Security, NRA banned forever from politics (with reasonable gun control), all Republicans are REQUIRED to submit to a mental health evaluation before reporting back to work. If found to be insane, then they need to resign and concede to the Democratic Party for replacement.
Also a 25% surtax on the rich. Ban all corporation who has a Bermuda or Bahamas P.O. as their address from dealing with the United States until they repatriate all of their money back to the States and accept loss of profits as punishment.

(180 posts)and then President Obama by executive order lowers the Medicare age to zero for a year to end the shutdown and make sure the US pays its bills? If the situation gets to the point where the US defaults on its debt, wouldn't that tank the world economy? Someone created a thread earlier about the idea and said in that situation, President Obama should have the authority to do it.
