Can you think of a time when Democrats have been this obstructionist?

Actually that's probably impossible; Democrats have never threatened to shut down the government unless they got what they wanted as far as I know.

But is there an issue approaching this? Where Democrats have really stood firm and done everything they can to stop a Republican law? It seems like in all the cases I can remember Democrats go to the bargaining table, try and improve whatever harebrained scheme Republicans have come up with and then maybe vote against it, but usually not.

The closest I can come up with is those 4 judges that we filibusted under Bush; but since we passed the rest of his judges (hundreds of them) I don't think that qualifies.

I'm trying to be even handed, but this impending government shutdown just has me infuriated.
