It's funny: the "West Wing"'s fictional shutdown was over a 2% cut in discretionary spending

If the House GOP caucus came forward with that deal today, they wouldn't just avert a shutdown; they'd be lauded as heroes.

Gingrich's actual shutdown 20 years ago was over a 1.5% cut in discretionary spending, with no policy changes attached.

Article in NYTimes today claims House has enough votes to pass the required bills cleanly but the leadership is afraid of angering the crazies.

edit- if you want fury… how about instead of echoing the Republicans' "shut it down" we try something like "shut the f*ck up and just vote to fund our government".
