Just a 1 year delay of individual mandate and Congress' exemption?

Last edited Mon Sep 30, 2013, 06:07 PM - Edit history (1)

I hate the mandate and care very little about the exemption for Congress and their employees.

If we get a long term budget deal AND a long term raise to the debt limit....... I could get behind that deal.

I don't like the idea of setting the precedent of holding the economy hostage, but if we get a real deal out of it then it might be worth it.

Edit to add.. it seems nobody understands just what this means. Delaying the mandate for one year won't stop people from signing up voluntarily. It is just the $95.00 or 1% of your income (whichever is higher) that we are talking about. Everything else stays in place. It is such a minor concession as to be almost meaningless.

All they really want to do is use it to beat the Democrats about the head and shoulders in the congressional elections.

If it goes into effect tomorrow, people will be used to it by this time next year.

The mandate does not go into effect until the first of the year. The market places open tomorrow so you can sign up if you want to.

I'm not sure you understand the point you are arguing. All that would happen is that people would not be forced to sign up. It would not stop people who want to sign up from doing so.

I think we win this argument a year from now and we end up beating them over the head with it.

Don't you get it? The only reason the mandate is in there is to force people who won't make many claims to pay into the pool to more or less subsidize those who are older and sicker.

Without the mandate, the insurance companies will balk and the program will be struggling next year. At that point the president's enemies can point to it as a clusterfuck and hang it on his shoulders.

The mandate has to be there for the ACA to work. I wish it weren't that way but it is. The republicans know that too.

It's nothing more than a ruse by the GOP.

The Dems should give them something.....the middle finger and tell them to take the plan and shove it up their ass.

No deal.

Shut it down.

You dont want to see how the base (and most rank and file Dems) will react if he caves on any part of Obamacare in the face of Republican extremist threats.

That would be a huge win for Republicans.

This is the ONE thing that cannot be compromised on. The GOP has had EVERY thing they ever wanted! We ALWAYS cave in and give them some kind of compromise. So this ONE TIME they need to put down their drinks and realize WE are allowed to win at least ONE time.

If that is impossible for the GOP, then I believe they have completely lost it over the POTUSs skin color. They have decided to make it THAT personal! Thousands will die, because America voted and they don't like who we picked!

All he is trying to do is enforce a law you guys passed in Congress! For fucks sake!

A delay on the individual mandate throws the entire law into disarray and uncertainty.

No giving in to the GOP. Not an inch.

hold hostage the economy AGAIN. Or decides clean air is so much bullshit like "global warming" and hold the economy hostage unless the weak-kneed Democrat party agrees to end all funding...Are you for that too?

When does one say to the hostage-takers: I'm sorry, you keep discarding out-of-hand what we propose and threaten to destroy the country if we do not kiss your ass.

If we were law enforcement personnel in a hostage situation, this is where the negotiator informs you that if you look down at your chest and the chest of your fellow hostage-takers, you will see the red dot of a lazer sight.

That is where the bullet will strike you when I end this call. We tried, but you are bent on destroying the country. You can have your hostages, we figure they were lost anyway. I hope you truly believe in the God you keep throwing in everyone's face because you are about to meet him. Bye.
