http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/crime/2012/03/02/bs-rfk-assassination.cnn.htmlWhat's new?
Is it "Nothing to see here, move along"... ?
I remember, and will never forget, those 100 days.

(46,354 posts)Recorders from that time used a microphone on a cord.
Just moving the recorder around can cause a "pop" sound.
First-hand experience here.
So who was this "second" gunman?
No clues whatsoever.

(6,896 posts)Its too bad the make and model of the portable reel to reel dont seem prominent in all the online rumination.
I think its safe to presume that, since the technology of the time was reel to reel, and the reporter was
Canadian based, i think? that he may well have been using an industry standard uher type machine.
Even if it were a cutrate small portable, the fidelity would be greater by far than any cassette machine short of
a Nakamichi or Akai "hi-fi" three head cassette.
Also, that microphone swinging around on a cable making its own pop noises (what?) would almost certainly be a
directional cardiod or hypercardiod pattern, which I think would cut down on the likelihood of blending echoes into the
recording. Not knowing the dimensions of the room, but assuming it was relatively small AND filled with people, the idea
of reflections of a sufficient strength and temporal relationship diminishes considerably.
If I remember roughly correctly about this, sound travels something like a foot per millisecond, and discrete echoes, or perhaps a noticable doubling only occur at some point after 32 milliseconds. the period before and leading up to this time frame is perceived as reverberent sound, a smeared assembly of reflections that would not be mistaken for extra reports.
depending on the room size, location and direction of the directional mic, and especially on the crowd of people,
there isnt that much wiggle room for mistaking echoes for shots.
I havent listened to the recording, I havent examined the sonic report card that audio technology can easily make available,
but I have seen a number of individuals work hard to discredit the various assassinations that shaped the world we know
through the 60's. The deaths of JFK, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr and RFK were just flukes, a series of lone nuts looking for attention
NOT likely.
Especially when followed by the assassinations and other means of removing Black Panthers in the late 60's and beyond.
Especially when the car bombing of Judi Bari and Daryl Cherney took place under the watchful eyes of Cointelpro operatives.

mopping cleanup was a familiar crew hiring a woman to write a hit book, just as we saw David Brock doing unto Anita Hill.
Some things are so important, they have to be protected. Relying, obviously, on people dumb enough to be fooled, over and over and over and over.
Dont be stupid. Dont be lazy. Dont listen to liars. Look into these things yourself.
Or these deaths and attempted murders will go unpunished, and uncorrected. Success stories encouraging more of the same.
Takes a pretty sordid soul to participate in these disinformation coverups.
No shortage there.
