(25,984 posts)the hoi polloi are exhibiting far too much unity - supporting the ACA and hating repugs - to suit the media's corporate masters.

(32,076 posts)and the gig is UP. Too funny! We have such a transient population there IS no North vs. South anymore. And loud farmer hick boonie people - both northern and southern- don't count. Or won't in a few years. They have had their farms and jobs jacked out from under them, their youngun's are moving to the cities or on meth, and their demographic is being decimated every 6 months.

(881 posts)The divide's been huge for years.
No need to look at the MSM. Just look at DU. Southerners--the whites, at least--are stupid, racist, backwards, speak funny, lazy, greedy, fat, and who knows what all. Notherners are liberal Democrats who are all above average, egalitarian (hating just the right people), speak properly, are hard working, altrustic, etc.
Gave up that fight years ago. Haters gonna hate.

(111,352 posts)The south has a lot of unique problems that will stay problems because they refuse to see them and work on them.
However, they're also turning more blue-purple with each election. Their culture might be clannish, churchy and impenetrable, but they're not fools forever.
Contrast that with what I call the Moron Corridor, the line of states starting with Texas in the south and N. Dakota in the north. Those states are remaining deep red except around a few college towns and larger cities.
If I were forced to choose between the south and the Moron Corridor as places to live, I'd probably choose the south. And I hated living there.
