This is the tip of the iceberg.
Incognito's father is reportedly using an alias on Twitter to spread vicious rumors about Martin.

(55,445 posts)In all seriousness, someone must ask why the Dolphins organization didn't handle this internally, because this isn't the first instance of teammates having some kind of conflict or grudge, etc...

(21,020 posts)the front office or coaches, but it could be entirely possible they didn't know any of this was going on.
I just read a weekly chat piece by Tedy Bruschi (former NE player) who said that often times rookies would be "hazed" by being "forced" to buy dinner for the rest of the team. The bill would often run in the thousands of dollars.
It went on like that for a while until BB found out about it and said it needed to stop.
And that's not even covert bullying.
So, yeah...I can imagine lots of stuff slipping under the radar of the front office. Now that it's out in the open, though, it needs to be fixed, even if it means firing good playmakers.

(55,445 posts)in HIS locker room (especially something that involves multiple teammates)...I can't even entertain that; it's too insulting to anyone with basic intelligence...
If all this stuff happened on free time, off-days, etc. far away from team facilities, then *maybe* there is a tiny shred of deniability...

(17,064 posts)This past spring the most recent. Apparently Dolphins coaching staff knew, and did nothing.

(68,918 posts)As a mother, my heart bleeds for this young man (Martin), and I would love to ground Icognito's mouthy little butt for life.
As a Packer fan who adored Joe Philbin once upon a time...Where the hell were you, Coach? You can't preach respect and hold players accountable, and claim you didn't know about this.

(68,918 posts)Philbin is completely responsible for not following up on Martins complaints.

(5,213 posts)Early this morning, a poster with the username "idrd1994" left an impassioned defense of Incognito on the FinHeaven message board. In it, he attacked both Martin and Mike Pouncey as "black brothers that do drugs on a regular basis," and asked readers to "pray [GM Jeff] Ireland and [coach Joe] Philbin die of AIDS."
A Google search for "idrd1994" turns up a number of posts on RC car message boards, from a user claiming to live in Arizonawhere the Incognitos moved when Richie Jr. was 11. "idrd1994" is also a profile on MyLife.com, registered under one Richie Incognito, age 63, from Glendale, Ariz.
Update: Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald spoke to the FinHeaven board administrator. idrd1994 registered with a date of birth of 12/14/1949, which matches Richie Incognito Sr.'s birthday.

(154,021 posts)on the part of dad. A lot of this behavior is enabled by parents from early on, and comes from places where bullying has been part of a cycle.
I am willing to bet a dime on the dollar, from what we know today of the behavior, dad was a bully as well, and still is in fact.
Damn, I think now I can have this in a very current story.

(23,272 posts)Disgusting.
The coach needs some lessons on how to build a team that works together with respect and discipline.
It starts at the top.

(17,064 posts)Martin reported incidents as recently as this past spring. Philbin knew, and did nothing. Looks like he and Dolphins will be named in huge lawsuit.

(17,111 posts)He was suspended for ONE YEAR at Nebraska. This was after his freshman year when he was an All-American. He really had to be something to get a whole year off. Even Lawrence Phillips didn't get a year, and he was a piece of work.
IMHO Incognito is a bully period. He would be nasty no matter what he did. Playing in the macho culture of football gave him the perfect cover. If he bullied somebody and they didn't want to push back, he wouldn't be blamed. The other person would be called weak. That is exactly what's happening in some areas among some people. Martin is seen as 'soft.'
Incognito wants to stir trouble. His dream is to get under other people's skin or get them in trouble with him.
BTW he was voted the second dirtiest player in the NFL.

(154,021 posts)and it is a common pattern that bullied children grow up to become bullies themselves. It is about control for the bully,

(4,757 posts)loved to turn the other way as the bullies bullied the smaller kids. I was harassed in gym class until I took vengeance, no one fucked with me again. I didn't break 100 pounds until my sophomore year.
SO this IS NO surprise to me.
Why I don't follow professional sports as much as I did when I was a kid.
Still a Cubs and bears fan, but no fanaticism.
