Oh dear, Charles Pearce Has Something To Say About The CMAs & The ACA

Apparently, the Affordable Care Act was the subject of some mockery in Nashburg last night at the annual festival of prefabricated hicks and manufactured shitkickers.

Let's forget, shall we, that the act is working gloriously in places like Kentucky, but that places like Tennessee, which hosted the yearly gathering of artificial redneck morons, have decided to sabotage the act because Tennessee insists on electing idiots, which is why there are a lot of the problems for Jethro and Zelda Mae to make sport of on the electric teevee. Let's also forget how much an actual Medicaid expansion would help in all those Southern states where these posers sell records and that have governors who suddenly find themselves allergic to Free Money (!) Let's also forget that none of the make-believe goobers on stage last night ever are going to have to make the decision between medicine for the kids and food on the table.

Let's forget all of that and concentrate on the main issue -- which is that modern country music sucks gigantic bowls of monkey dick. It is, weight for age, the phoniest genre of music since Pat Boone was ripping off Little Richard. Most of what is celebrated as "country" these days is simply bad rock and roll played by people who look like they flunked the audition for a Night Ranger tribute band. I mean, Taylor Fking Swift is already a "legend," and Patsy Cline would have eaten her on toast.

You know what country music is?

This is country music.

And this.

......................

And, most assuredly, this.

If Gram Parsons weren't dead, this would kill him.

There are some good progressives among the country performers, but the majority, like teabagger politicos, feed the most ignorant (and racist) common denominator among their fans.

She didn't get the award because she is the greatest musician. She got it because she opened up new country music to the young generation.

In an age where kids are hooked on rap with obscene lyrics, she broke in with song lyrics as innocent as the Beach Boys tunes my generation grew up on.

She is not Patsy Cline, or Johnny Cash or Garth .Brooks (the only other person to get that award) .

She is not Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus or Snoop Dog either.

I am not a big Taylor Swift fan, but I do understand that pre teeny boppers singing about talking on the phone to their boyfriend is healthier than most of what they are exposed to.

I think there is a young crowd that could use a lot more break through artists like her.

I understand why the CMA knows she is a big deal to the business.

She deserves the award.

tolerates them is because they look they part and smile for the camera much the same way beauty pageant contestants did 50 years ago.

They would never had made fun of a Republican President.

Btw if anyone is interested in real country, then look for Together at the Bluebird Cafe. It's a live recording of Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and Steve Earl playing together and trading stories. One of the best albums I've ever owned.

Strangely, I've never before realized the similarities between modern Country and the GOP. Both are industries based around pretending to be down-home regular guys, who are actually rich folk conning working class southerners out of their money.

of them in it. They followed Guy and Steve on tour, and they try not to play to the camera, like a serious documentary. Then as a joke on the camera crew they send them to Austin to record Townes (thinking he'd flop), who plays to the camera with comedy routines and telling stories and of course steals the show.

And of course, theres Blaze Foley who often played shows with Townes, and the Cowboy Junkies who he toured with.

Theres a new documentary on Blaze called "Duct Tape Messiah" but I haven't seen it.
