Jimmy Carter’s Grandson Running For Governor

His name's Jason Carter and he's running for governor
By Noah Rayman Nov. 07, 2013

The grandson of former President Jimmy Carter said he will run for governor of Georgia next year, looking to extend his family’s political legacy in the heavily Republican state.

Jason Carter, a 38-year-old Democratic state Senator, told the local Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday that he plans to follow his grandfather’s path to the Governor’s Mansion in 2014.

“We can’t wait as a state,” said Carter, who will formally launch his candidacy on Thursday. “The bottom line is we can’t afford four more years of an economy that’s not working for the middle class and an education system that’s underfunded. It’s not about politics. It’s about making sure we can get the state that we need.”

Carter, who said he will stay in his state Senate office, will run on a message of education reform. He’ll be competing for the seat of incumbent Republican Gov. Nathan Deal, who is already facing two primary opponents.

...a cousin of the guy running.

Jason Carter, a state senator, announced his plans in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He said he will not be running on the family name but rather his own vision.
***
(President) Carter's family has been somewhat active in national politics in recent years.

His oldest son, Jack, unsuccessfully ran for a Nevada U.S. Senate seat in 2006, and a grandson, James Carter IV, helped leak Mitt Romney's infamous "47 percent" video during the 2012 presidential election.

Jason Carter, 38, is Jack Carter's son. He was elected to the state Senate in a 2010 special election.

By REID J. EPSTEIN - 2/14/13

DECATUR, Ga. -- President Obama on Thursday met the man who made "47 percent" part of Mitt Romney's legacy.

Obama and opposition researcher James Carter, who released the infamous Romney fundraiser video, met backstage before Obama's education event here, Carter's cousin, Georgia state Sen. Jason Carter, told POLITICO.

Upon being introduced and told of James Carter's role in the 47 percent video, Obama jumped forward to embrace him.

"Thank you, thank you so much," Obama told James Carter, his cousin said...

That was my first thought, as well. Jason and James are President Carter's grandsons. James had been a waiter, not sure if he filmed it, and not a state senator, IIRC.

Close enough. I'd love to see a Carter bring Georgia back to sanity. Maybe go down the same road as Jimmy Carter?

Say what you will about dynasties, but he's earned it. GA needs somebody who can cut through and be heard and if it takes the Carter name for that to happen thats fine by me. Considering the right wing opposition from both the establishment Republicans and the Tea Baggers, he's gonna need all the support he can get. I mean some places in GA during election season people put John Birch Society signs on their front lawns. But the demographics are shifting to our favor and against the rightwingers.

GA is the crown jewel of the GOP empire, as it has a lot of republican seats and a lot of GOP power and money. Just look at the shady deals our governor is making and all the resources the corporations are moving here. If we can defeat Nathan "Shady" Deal and start turning House seats here that momentum will reverberate throughout the South.

a recognizable name.
Hopefully, Grandpa Jimmy and Grandma Roslynn can help in his campaign, by meeting with older folk who remember Jimmy's governorship and presidency, and by raising campaign funds.

Where does he live in Georgia? Not in or near Plains, I guess. Perhaps Atlanta?

A complete corporate tool.

Current Governor Nathan Deal sold his business to a company that owes Georgia $750,000.00 in back taxes. He kept the land, and leases it to the new business owners. Still no tax payments made to the state, and a sweetheart deal to Deal.

The Georgia Lottery was brought in to fund the Hope Scholarship. Gov. Deal also altered funding, and at least one county now is forced to place teachers on temporary furlough during the school year.

An independent investigation was cancelled due to 2 investigators being driven off of the Ethics Commission by a Deal appointed Chairman.
