and Donald Trump were guests, I was reminded of an article that I read about Palin the week that McCain forced her on this nation back in 2008. In the article, it discussed Palin's background and it said something to the affect that,"...although she considers herself a christian, she stated that she (and members of her family) have never belonged to any church or any organized religion. She stated that she taught herself about God by reading the Bible. ..."
I remember thinking to myself at the time, that must have been awful hard to do since, I, having been brought up in the church and attending religious schools from 1-12th grade would have had a lot of trouble understanding the meaning of many things in the Bible had I had to read it and interpret it myself. By the end of her first week on the McCain campaign trail, I was convinced that, this woman is an idiot. About a year ago, I tried to search for that earlier article and could not find it with so much out there now about her on the internet. But I remain convinced that the woman is a snake oil salesman and a fraud when it comes to her peddling her books on religion, because none of her actions convince me that she has a religious bone in her body. I'm not moved by her flags on her lapel or her Star of David necklace worn at Tea Party rallies.
So the fact that Palin and Donald Trump were at Graham's 'final sermon' just convinces me even more that this was a convention of snake oil salesman, rather than anything else.

(101,361 posts)On September 20 and 21, I attended services at the church Sarah Palin belonged to since she was an adolescent, the Wasilla Assembly of God. Though Palin officially left the church in 2002, she is listed on its website as "a friend," and spoke there as recently as June 8 of this year.
I went specifically to see a pastor visiting from Kiambu, Kenya named Thomas Muthee. Muthee gained fame within Pentecostal circles by claiming that he defeated a local witch, Mama Jane, in a great spiritual battle, thus liberating his town from sin and opening its people to the spirit of Jesus.
Muthee's mounting stardom took him to Wasilla Assembly of God in May, 2005, where he prayed over Palin and called upon Jesus to propel her into the governor's mansion -- and beyond. Muthee also implored Jesus to protect Palin from "the spirit of witchcraft." The video archive of that startling sermon was scrubbed from Wasilla Assembly of God's website, but now it has reappeared.
The Christian right's analysis is accurate to a certain degree. While Palin may not be The One, she is certainly one of them. Her social policy views, from her rejection of scientific evidence on global warming to her opposition to publicly funding emergency contraception for rape victims, are explicitly influenced by the sectarian theology she has subscribed to since she was a teenager. There is no better evidence of the depth of Palin's radical convictions than her startling encounter with the witch-hunter, Bishop Muthee.

When I say 'witch-hunter', I mean it - he was proud of getting the woman arrested for casting a spell, and, when she was released, a mob driving her out of town, fearful for her life: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=3493314&mesg_id=3495708
Palin is a genuine religious nut-case, I think. She's just a con-artist as well.
