this video should properly impress you. Time lapses taken by a man and his friends...this was posted last month, so probably many haven't seen this yet.
EDIT: Seeing if different title gets more interest.

(15,805 posts)Watching the vivid colors unfold in the confluence of land, sky and space, certainly makes me feel small and insignificant in the grand scheme of the cosmos.
Thanks for this!

(5,662 posts)is from the International Dark Sky Reserve at Lake Tekapo in New Zealand. There are five official Dark Sky Reserves which have strict controls on artificial lighting at night. The one at Lake Tekapo is 1600 square miles around the Mount St John Observatory.

(18,219 posts)I will probably never make it to any of them. Too bad that I don't have money to pursue my desires. Luckily for me, I can find satisfaction in what I can afford......but I can dream.

(18,219 posts)The conditions must not have been just right. We travelled to Santa Fe, Taos, Bandelier National Monument, etc. And every place we go, we look to the sky.
The best I have ever seen of the Milky Way was just once, in Dew Texas. I was truly in awe. And it was not as extreme as these in the video.

(18,219 posts)We stayed in Los Alamos. We did do a few strange detours looking for things like petroglyphs and ruins, but not in that area. That was one of my most enjoyable trips. I really enjoyed New Mexico. Southern Utah is still my favorite trip, but this was a close second.

(53,661 posts)You just look up and almost fall over backwards. Saw some of the famous comets in the daylight and at night in those years, too. In the city, you just don't get this. Thanks for posting.
