General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWell, today I became a statistic.
I got a job!
A good job, in my field, with benefits and a living wage. I'm pretty much off the charts busting. Two years of constant worry, gone. I'm back baby!
Any other down-and-out IT folks out there, keep looking. I've noticed in the past month that everything has changed, companies are hiring again.

(3,596 posts)It appears the economy is slowly adding jobs. I haven't looked into the nature of those jobs, i.e. are they minimum-wage service jobs or beginning to be "real" jobs. Whichever I am delighted for you and hope this continues not just because I think it improves the President's chances of re-election but as a relief to the millions of my fellow Americans that have suffered untold pain due to the excesses of the 1%.

(37,540 posts)If HR departments start thinking we're in a hiring market, I think we'll see even more hiring as companies don't want to be scrambling to fill staff openings as the economy heats up. Better to be ahead of that curve in terms of both available talent and salary cost to get them.

(5,252 posts)I was out of work 3 1/2 years. Haven't been around much since I started working in June (in a completely different field).
My friend, who works in IT, had been unemployed for 1 1/2 years. She started a new IT job last month.

(65,616 posts)No I agree that is new, I might start looking around my area I have a great IT job but could use a few contracts.

(45,358 posts)It seems like that is the only site that recruiters pay attention to.
I found this job on Craigslist BTW, so I have to give that site a good word too.
Rex
(65,616 posts)Been about 3 years since I've used careerbuilder, I think the last site I found a job on was monster.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)Things are picking up.
Though the three jobs I was being interviewed for where I got this job were all contract jobs. So I'm hoping that over time that more of the jobs being offered soon also are the quality jobs and full time jobs, etc. with better pay too. It would be more of a sign then that this ramp up is permanent than a temporary surge.
In any case, more people getting good jobs, whatever they are, is a damn good thing.
2012 is quite different. I even got a call for a job on the Monday New Year's day holiday when things suddenly changed then after a previous year of a lot of inactivity.
Congrats to us both. I think especially in high tech things are looking up now.
tridim
(45,358 posts)And certainly not close to what I was making in 1999. The dot-com era was a crazy time, I'm not sure it'll ever happen again. I did a preliminary budget and will actually have some money left over to save.
It was all the $10/hr contract jobs I've been seeing for the past two years that had me so bummed out about the industry.
