The thing about Reagan is that clearly he appealed across party lines, in a similar way to Clinton. What about him got so many votes?

Reagan was in obvious distress. I know I felt protective of him because I felt sorry for him (and because the media hadn't yet put all the pieces together about the scandal).

I don't fall for that anymore. Especially when I see older people in my area take on positions of leadership to abuse their power, and when you call them out they resort to the "old guy" ploy.

As bad as Reagan's policies were, he would be considered "too liberal" by today's nasty group of right wing hate mongers.
Fox News would be making sure that Reagan was crucified daily if he showed signs of gaining ground in the GOP of 2013.

So, as bad as Reagan was, by today's standards we was not enough for the arsonists who are running around torching everything in sight....

It is National Airport. Nothing else.

Should add- Told CIA to arm and Train OBL. Allowed CIA to arm and train death squads in Central America. 241 Americans killed in Lebanon under his watch, and never brought their killers to justice. Did nothing to combat the AIDS epidemic in his own country.

is why so many didn't notice his policies. They also didn't notice that he was an imbecile.

Unlike today's Republicans/Teabaggers, his mean spiritedness didn't show through. In America, an amiable imbecile will beat out a boring intelligent person almost every time.

and threw a bunch of people on the street who need help more than anything else in the world.

Is walking around and being homeless helping these people? I'm asking ironically, since we all know the answer. Just because you pretend they aren't there doesn't mean they aren't. A lot of them are veterans too - it's okay for both parties to sneer at individual soldiers, but they can love "the troops™" at the same time, somehow.

Kennedy was the real winner of the Cold War. He kept us all alive despite a bad situation. Kennedy got Russia to back off with nothing in return.

Something happening in your term doesn't mean you caused it.

Edit to clarify: I know Russia didn't fully collapse in Reagan's term, but it was coming apart at the seams. This was inevitable due to Russia being horribly mismanaged, not Reagan. I know it was also formally the USSR, but "Russia" is also acceptable.

As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron. - H.L. Mencken
