Medical Breakthrough Over the Weekend

Last edited Mon Dec 19, 2011, 03:23 PM - Edit history (1)

The federal government of the United States has just confirmed that a medical breakthrough
on the benefits of marijuana was achieved over the weekend.
They stated that they were sorry they closed up all the Medical Marijuana Clinics during the last months.
They stated to make up for this mistake they have decided to give a company in New York exclusive rights to any money to be made for this surprising breakthrough.

Now who could have seen this coming?
I have come to help you. I am from Big Pharma.............

It is the only thing that makes any sense. For years people have been asking why marijuana has been classified as a Schedule 1 drug and saying marijuana has medical benefits. The federal government has fought the public over these positions for years. The DoJ has attacked marijuana clinics for the last few months. The federal government for some years has held patents for the benefits of marijuana for medical use. The DEA has marijuana farms.

I just read on DU that today the government is planning to GIVE the patents to a company in New York so they can profit from the use of marijuana for medical benefits. I find this plan very distasteful. More money for Big Pharma and screw the people.

are headed in the big picture. Citizens seem to be fresh meat to feed the corporate appetite, and from a rights point of view, it seems many of us are becoming guilty of whatever by default.

And many of these politicians, anymore, are IMO just about certifiably one or two short of a 6-pack.

15. I don't really have a problem with the government "giving" a patent to anyone.

However, if the entity the patent is given to then turns around and profits from it, with that I do have some issues. It would seem to follow the pattern of Socialize the risks, Privatize the profits, and we all know how poorly that is working out for average citizens' general welfare.

One possible fix is for the government to give the patents only to non-profit entities. Another possible fix is for the government to use the patent to produce it themselves, rather than just grant & archive it. Some of those "top secret" military laboratories come to mind. I'd much rather that funding for those places be used for creating medicines that help the population, rather than designing and producing killing agents.

An indebted government probably has a rationale to financially parasitize its population. The financial raping of citizens in health care sectors seems to have been well documented.

excerpt:

The prospective exclusive license territory may be worldwide, and
the field of use may be limited to:

The development and sale of cannabinoid(s) and cannabidiol(s)
based therapeutics as antioxidants and neuroprotectants for use and
delivery in humans, for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, as
claimed in the Licensed Patent Rights.

It seems very narrow in use..
