City cops, firefighters suspected of scamming Social Security with bogus stress-related illness claims

More than 100 suspected scammers, most of them retired cops at least two doctors and firefighters, could be arrested for making false claims to bilk money from Social Security, the Daily News has learned. Social Security officials grew suspicious when they receive a spate of similar diagnoses,with fake stress-related illness claims and alerted the feds. They allegedly maintained that they were too wigged out to work when, in reality, they were mentally and emotionally fit, sources told The News.
At least some of the former NYPD and FDNY members targeted in the probe benefit from 9/11 pensions, according to sources.The Manhattan district attorney’s office is expected to announce the arrests next week, the sources said.
The alleged scammers include at least two doctors and a number of steerers who directed people seeking a disability diagnosis to the crooked medics, sources said.

This has always been the case and stories like the above historically appear like magic in the pages of the NY Daily News whenever municipal contract negotiations are about to begin in NYC.
