We went through Parris Island at the same time. Him and his brother were in a different training unit in the quonset hut next to mine.

(2,252 posts)Yeah, most people probably remember The Everly Brothers from their 50's and early 60's hits.
My favorite album of theirs is Born Yesterday, from 1985, which included:
A great cover of Mark Knopfler's Why Worry, performed here with Mark and Chet Atkins:
then, for a change of pace, Dylan's Abandoned Love
and a classic love song - Always Drive a Cadillac: "The strongest love is the love that let's you go.."
Whew.
But for those not content with the later oeuvre...
RIP, Phil.

(40,416 posts)Popular music -- dare one say mucus -- has turned into yelling and loud guitars and drums, with so-called singers with less than an octave range.
That's why I despise popular music these days and have moved on (mostly opera these days).
But the Everly's were, and always have been, something very special.
Thanks for the great videos. Pretty damned wonderful, at a time when popular music meant actual music.

(9,385 posts)The Everlys (and Danny and the Juniors) were the very first music I bought on my own, in 1957, at seven years old. It used to be a big deal to me as a kid, to be able to to walk up to the drugstore and buy singles that I had heard on the radio and liked that much.
They added a lot to those times, for lots of people.
One of their later hits (1983) that I like a lot, written by Paul McCartney.
