Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, the former Redlands teacher who had a baby with one of her students, was released from jail Sunday, Jan. 5, after serving slightly more than four months of a one-year sentence.

Whitehurst, 29, was freed at 12:12 a.m. Sunday, San Bernardino County jail records show.

Whitehurst pleaded guilty to four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and two counts of oral copulation with a minor.

On Aug. 28, she was sentenced to one year in jail and five years’ probation. She had to forfeit her teaching credential, permanently register as a sex offender and was ordered not to have contact with the father of her child.

you think that statutory rapists should have custody of the children they conceive? I don't.

the age of consent is often 16, although teachers have special restrictions by law, because they have so much contact with minors.

10. Let me do a quick search here on DU for any posts saying that male teachers who

impregnate their students in high school should have custody of their children. I will get back to you as soon as I find one. Don't wait up, it may be a while.

6. Thanks for the extra info. When I read the OP it said she was ordered to have no

contact with the victim, so I was wondering if the father had custody and if not, how was he able to see parent the child. The extra info makes sense. Thanks again.
