(23,295 posts)I don't think he can get out of this one. His demeanor will only get worse. It's too late to get them to back off by barking and clowning in his condescending tone.

I certainly hope so--though in some ways, he's such a tool, he can't hold his temper and he might be an easy mark to beat.
Who will Christie throw under the bus?

(31,234 posts)and I, quite frankly, thought the national news was avoiding it, but it doesn't look like they can avoid it now. This may turn out better than I had hoped.

(31,234 posts)some folks who are really close to him, and we'll see if they retaliate. They're big on retaliation, ya know?

(53,661 posts)He's a direct Koch lackey, recorded bragging to his donors and the Koch brothers in person how he was going to use his power as executive to carry out their agenda.
The one against unions, public schools, etc. These folks don't have any shame in them. They see a way to make money, that's all. It's depotism full tilt ahead like most of the teabag governors. No daylight between them and those who bribe them, they see that as the natural way of governing. Like fascists.
If they don't another job after a pink slip, they might be vulnerable to retribution from Christie, Inc. for not taking the licking lying down. Or they will get employed by one of the extended, like minded types will hire them to do their dirty work. You can bet they've made friends with the public money that will last.
Now, if they get arrested, and it's not a huge problem - some people will do time for others to keep themselves out of trouble historically - and they don't get any reassurance of help later they might squeal. But I think he runs his government just like a gang and there's no way for them to quit for life.
That's not what I hope it's gotten down to in NJ, but I also didn't expect to see this mentality spread through the country via the teabag bandits elected to office.
I hope it works as you say, though.

(31,234 posts)just go away. He's a well known bully, and I have no doubt that he isn't above blackmail if he can. The Sopranos come to mind when I think of him and the people he chose to surround himself with.

(53,661 posts)The GOP under DeLay and Bush were so mob-like, they even went after everyone in their administration who got between them and total power. Look at LePage, Walker, Rand, Cantor and the others, how close they are to the big money and have no shame about scandal.
It's a different way of life and doing business they're putting into effect through privatization. The difference between public and private is that the former is vastly more transparent because of public oversight as its reason to exist. In the private sector, if cronyism, theft, lies or other forms of malfeasance occur and it will make more profit for the few at the top which is their reason to exist, they are applauded.
Wecan no longer trust ANY kind of Republican in the White House as they have proven state by state in the states and Congress to be in the same mold as Christie, if not worse. And they are an extremely vile breed of bag men.
The thought of CC, Rand or Cruz in the White House is terrifying. People who have not lived in nations where one cannot even travel down a road or operate a business without being shook down and forced to pay a bribe to live there, have no idea what is gradually making its way across this nation.
Another aspect is using the gun to solve all things while denigrating civil society and authority. Those who revel in these things apparently think they'll do fine under mobster rule but they have no idea what that is going to be like.

(12,530 posts)They have a guy lined up who says he's with the Benghazi International Bridge Closing Consortium. Seems legit to me.
I look forward to Chris Christie getting his just desserts, but I'll never take anything CBS says at face value for any reason.
