I guess this could be considered my own fundraiser. From the input I have received from many of you (going to Ohio or New Mexico) it seems the best choice in this matter is for me to re-start my life in New Mexico. It will likely be a lot easier and less expensive. I don't want to be a burden on people or seem stubborn. But I am anxious to return to a "life". I'm sure you are aware of that. I have an offer for a housing situation from a wonderful DU'er and I have accepted.
Opposed to about $1200 to get to Ohio, its only about $580 to Albuquerque--not including gas or an overnighter somewhere.
So this is it. A fundraiser so I can get a truck to New Mexico. This is new to me so bear with me.
If anybody is able to help, please send me a message and I will tell you how to send to paypal. This is strictly for the truck, gas, and likely overnighter. From Nor-Cal its about 1300 miles. I haven't reserved truck yet, but will do so soon.
And again to all the DU'ers who have provided support during this crisis, the light at end that friggin tunnel is in sight. You guys and gals have been awesome. Your thoughts and prayers have been noted--including suggestions. Whatever you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Just message me. Bless you all.

(585 posts)People have used cash, checks, and credit cards to buy guns and gun parts, too. Should we all stop using them?

I've seen the question in the ATA forum and he says a member can ask for help. Are Grits Grocery asked for help for an ailing kitty, and I've seen others. Your cause is as good an anyone else's.
It was once against the rules, as DU didn't want to be on the hook for fraud. They have taken the position now that it's up to the members to decide, DU is NOT putting itself on the line or validating the appeals.
That was the concern before. I'm sure you are not abusing it and those who don't won't be in trouble. Spammers do that and you are not a spammer.
I have some family in Alberquerque. I hope you will enjoy living there.

(2,397 posts)Does anyone know what is protocol for DIRECTING funds to a particular person? i.e name@paypal.com? Lower case? Space between names?
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)are Firstname Last name, separated like that as our real names are. But the email connected to the account will be firstnamelastname@paypal.com.
I know when I sign in to paypal it greets me by name, in the normal configuation. But spaces aren't allowed in the email.

(9,314 posts)To send someone money you need their email address that is connected to their PayPal account or the mobile phone number connected to the account.

(2,397 posts)I just talked with rep and she said its not name@paypal.com
Its supposed to be my regular email address--when entering to who section.

(50,130 posts)better check that with paypal. Normally, a donor would use your email address as the recipient.
Another question is this: doyou have a way to get the money out of paypal? Paypal can send you a check, but that takes time. Or you can get a netspend debit card in about a week to which you can transfer money from paypal in two days time. www.netspend.com. I use it all the time.
Or you could request a paypal debit card but that takes a couple of weeks and a verification process that you might have trouble fulfilling right now.

(356 posts)I am saving up for my own fresh start in New Mexico, though we haven't decided between ABQ and Santa Fe. We are a young couple, and will likely be working low wage jobs, so the living wage in Santa Fe would be a big help, even if we lose a few square feet of housing.

(3,998 posts)Personally, I hate heat. SF is higher altitude and cooler. Not that it doesn't get hot. It is a beautiful place too!

(23,156 posts)it's not as expensive as it's made out to be. Okay, so housing is cheaper in Albuquerque, but it's not that bad here. When I moved here in 2008 from Overland Park, Kansas, which is considered to be a low cost of living place, I paid in rent here exactly what I would have paid in OP for a comparable place.
It's a small city, population about 70,000 or so. We have at least four colleges here: St. John's College, the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, Southwestern College, and Santa Fe Community College. We're nearly two thousand feet higher than Albuquerque, which means we're significantly cooler in the summer. I live without air conditioning, which is pretty amazing. I have a nice ceiling fan in the main room, keep windows open all night and close them during the heat of the day. I also have no directly west-facing windows which makes a difference.
I think one reason Santa Fe has the reputation for being so expensive is that too many locals have never lived anywhere else. Expensive? Try San Francisco, or NYC, or DC, just to name three. We do have a high "living wage" which helps a great deal.

Some mentioned this to me and while I was checking last night, modum died. So I got cutoff. Frustrating. It said paypal made deposit and I have to verify. And that is 2-3 biz days. First, do I have to wait to see deposits? Or can I see those now? Is there paypal expert in the house? And please forgive me for not being here this morning. Internets access is challenging.
Okay. Here is update. I'm at stage where I have to wait for paypal to make "test" deposit to my credit Union. I just called CU and they said no deposits have occurred. Since I set this up with PP, its states 2 to 3 biz days before I its official. That may explain why many have said "I don't exist on paypal" So perhaps tomorrow(tues) it will show in my home page.
