Republicans pul their old stand by of threatening to gum up everything (Cabinet appoints, Covid relief, etc) essentially holding the nation hostage more or less out of spite and that was a big reason the Democratic Party side backed down? That's what Neal Katayal seemed to be saying on MSNBC this morning.

(913 posts)- House Managers were not allowed, by rule, to call for witnesses before Saturday morning
- Ahead of time, Sen Schumer said they could call witnesses if they wished.
- The House Managers decided to call witnesses
- The Senate voted to call that witness
- Senate Democrats put pressure on the House Managers to make a deal instead. (Of course Republican Senators also did not want witnesses). Pressure came at least from Coons and Manchin.
- House Managers made the deal to only enter the public statement into the record
- The Trump lawyer stated the public statement was not true

A reminder that @SenateGOP was willing to tank the economy, stymie vaccinations, and let children go hungry to stop a witness from testifying against Trump. #2022Iscoming
