Dead intern Joe caught violating MSNBC network rule...
At NBC, theres a rule that if anchors give a paid speech to a for-profit enterprise the kind they may be covering in their role as journalists they have to give the money they receive to charity. Its not a secret rule. Its been in place for nearly 20 years to prevent conflicts of interest. Everybody knows about it. But is everyone following it?
How about Joe Scarborough?
According to a well-placed source at MSNBC, the Morning Joe co-host may have been pocketing the proceeds from some of his many highly paid speeches, in direct violation of network policy. Thats what some of his co-workers suspect anyway, and theyre resentful about it.
heres no doubt Joe has been doing a lot of speaking lately. He is repped by William Morris Endeavor chief (and Entourage prototype) Ari Emanuel, and exclusive to the Leading Authorities speakers bureau in Washington. The details and fee structures are all over the web: If Joe speaks east of the Mississippi, he gets $51,000, swanky hotel not included. For a trip to the West Coast, the fee jumps to $56,000, again hotel not included. When he speaks in New York, Joe doesnt need a hotel, since he already works there, but he still makes $45,500. Not bad for an hour of talking. His co-host Mika Brzezinski frequently joins him on stage.
That kind of money could make a host pretty sympathetic to the people who are paying him, some of whom might wind up in the news some day. You can see why the networks are concerned about conflicts. NBC laid down its policy in 1996, when it banned employees from accepting money from corporations and trade associations that lobby government or take public positions on issues. All paid appearances must be approved by management.
Does Joe follow these rules? The Daily Callers Mirror blog reached out to Scarborough, as well as to MSNBCs PR department with that question. Does Joe give the money to charity or keep it for himself? If hes following NBC policy, could we see the relevant portion of his tax return? But they ignored us. Neither even responded.

The other reason is when I watch MSNBC the night before and burn too much catnip, then I'm too lazy to change the channel.

(25,544 posts)I really resent it when I make a comment about a show and someone chimes in and tells me to turn off the TV, as though that option had never occurred to me.
It is as though I need someone else's permission to watch a show or go to a website or do whatever I want to do within bounds.

(145,231 posts)I agree that it is difficult to believe Tucker on anything. I remember that Tucker was one of the few media types who felled for the pretend scandal for Sen. Bob Menendez
http://www.salon.com/2013/03/22/report_lawyer_links_daily_caller_to_paid_menendez_prostitutes/ and http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/03/bob-menendez-prostitute-admits-she-lied-daily-caller.html
Like nearly every story on Tucker Carlson's the Daily Caller that escapes the conservative echo chamber, allegations that New Jersey senator Bob Menendez paid for sex in the Dominican Republic appear to be false. The attempted November surprise, which mostly flopped even at the time, hinged on two women in a video interview claiming Menendez (a "Latin Lover," in Caller-speak) offered them $500 for sex and only ended up paying $100. Now one of the women says in an affidavit that she was paid to make the false charges
The idea that Tucker thinks that he is a journalist is really funny to me

(135,425 posts)Ms Rothstein does not specify how much the pair allegedly made in the move, but elsewhere cites other events where Scarborough makes between $45,500 and $56,000 per solo speaking engagement.
She then alleges that there is a connection between that May appearance and the Detroit Chamber of Commerce's CEO Sandy Baruah's guest spot on Scarborough and Brzezinski's show three months later.
If the allegations that he makes thousands off paid speeches are true, then that money would only serve to supplement his income from the show, which his divorce disclosures led to estimates that he is paid $99,000 per week.
Maybe he was trying to squirrel away some spare change because of this latest divorce... ?

(1,290 posts)Or at least that's the impression I get whenever his website starts talking about anything related to NBC. He's just jealous that nobody gives a fuck about whatever the Daily Caller is, and he'll only ever be remembered for being the douchebag in a bowtie who used to be MSNBC's token libertarian.

(15,435 posts)And he actually apologized to no other than Sarah... you-know-who! Yes, he was strident at times, but unless there was more that we didn't know about, MSNBC is quick to do CYA most of the time.
Cenk Uger must have been reprimanded, was offered a smaller reporting role with a pay raise, but decided to leave. Yes, I know he didn't actually have his own show. As for Olbermann, I do believe they suggested he leave very strongly, then he got in trouble over at what is now Al Jazeera, when it was Gore's baby.
I stopped watching JoeyScar quite some time ago, simply because he would always kind of slip in those snide remarks here and there. Plus, he turned me off anyway many years ago.
He was a Representative from here in Florida, up in the Panhandle area if I'm correct and I suppose he was given the show to "balance" with Mika. However, it began to look as those Mika was morphing into JoeyScar many, many times. Too much for me to take anyway. A few days ago she did shock me with her retort about sticking to the subject RE: Christie, still not so sure about which way she blows.
MSNBC has let hosts like Rachel, Tweety and others pretty much run their show. BUT, don't we ALL recall what they did to Ed Schultz. Thankfully, the out cry from people must have been too much for them to handle and he's back now. The place leans more left sort of, but there are other channels that do more intensive coverage and we get better "real" information. Problem is though, many people don't get those channels sooooooo many stick with MSNBC.
Would be SO NICE without the twit as far as I'm concerned, but then I'm one of those liberal types! Horrors!!

(11,841 posts)His intentional use of altered audio and video clips in the past is uncalled for. And he takes money from outside the job as well. Mostly from unions. Havent seen him reporting it being donated either.
Edit: intentional or not, busted out laughing at your comment on Mika: "still not so sure about which way she blows."

I bet all his high school buddies are pleasantly surprised? I bet they brag about how Joe was always one of their best friends?
But, there was a time when MSNBC had different standards. But they have different leadership now. They are owned by Comcast.
There was a time when their employees were punished with time-off the job when they took money or donated money to political causes.
Do they not do that anymore?

A relative of mine in the Medical Device Business walked out of their "Show" that at the "Advomed" (Med/Tech Convention in DC) this Spring. Thought it was "not appropriate" for those two to appear "doing their "Morning Joe Show" at a Convention for Scientists and Med/Tech/Business People attending a Serious Convention to discover and promote new technology and business funding. The Society Paid for them to appear with Dues of Members. (To be fair Clinton, Bush II, Paul Begala, Orrin Hatch...etc have all made presentations but it was about GOVT. POLICY ....not a Celebrity Road Show like Joe and Mika who are nothing but entertainers.
They've been raking in the big bucks appearing at Conventions and Speaking Tours since their show Began! Both are probably Multi-Millionaires from these Road Show Speaking Tours.
This is but a "glitch" in their Profit Making "Celebrity Machine!"

(45,251 posts)Look how long it took them to finally put Buchanan aside as a regular "contributor" for xenophobia and racism, even though his "tendencies" shall we say were evident in his books and in the comments he made on MSNBC programs long before MSNBC claims to have noticed them. Viewers, including me, were complaining for years.
Of course, Buchanan continued as a regular on The McLaughlin Group evenn after MSNBC let him go and that is carried by PBS. I think he still may be on it.

1. Setup a private foundation.
2. Hire a family member to administer the foundation's giving.
3. Move all of your existing charitable giving to the foundation.
Net result, more money in your pocket, family employment for generations, virtual control of these funds and there ultimate disposition.

(44 posts)Both morning joe hosts should be fired because they both are bias. Martin would have been a great anchor for this morning show. It seems that whoever runs msnbc wants to work in Hollywood rather than be in the news business. Mika is too timid and lets Joe walk all over her like she is Judy to his Punch. Joe is just totally conservatively warped in the way he comes off when he opens his mouth. We see way too much of Mika's father on the show which leads to believe there is a lot of nonsense being displayed. Mika's father was and still is a very rude and big time bully who never can let anything go even when he is wrong. There are a lot of skeletons in that family closet. Lastly Mika and Joe need to just go ahead and marry each other so that all the sexual tension between the two would subside.

Reminds me in sort of way in that Joe Scarborough having the air of attitude or his cavil air-ways has that hubris bounce in arrogance like a reflecting rick o'shay gulf ball out of control.
The zing meister we would all like to see in space flight way far in some star wars parsec, away with the ray gun goon.
Some of the DU ers know that my studies and research is in math. Although being an amateur mathematics historian, occasionally a wonderful story of arrogance is displayed that matches snarky Journalist. In antiquity Galileo was proving his findings about the parabola, but he was wrong. Imagine the debate at that time. Or, Newtons authority was so great for a hundred and twenty years is calculus was dominant, however, later proven wrong at the quantum level.
In any event it is a let down to the basics of the current theme we all know is out there. Do they tell the truth, Hell no! Cut it out Joe Scarborough talks about politics kicking the can down the road, thats what his news is like, a dirty political canned story shoving it to the mainstream audience. Sort like Fox News viewers sidelined sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for the ray gun to off.
The real scandal is Andrea Mitchell wife of former Federal Reserve Board Chairman. Yikes if anyone has sexy juicy tingling down your leg trillion dollar derivative cowboy spit in your hand shake deals she would.
