They are not concerned that there was attempted extortion - it's all about Zimmer's character.

(14,061 posts)Joe's wondering why she waited until now to say something about the funds. He's suggesting she's just piling on for political gain. He's also baiting Kornacki.
"I'm not trying to be a bully here, I just want the facts!"
Whatever you say, Joe.
MADem
(135,425 posts)She certainly didn't sound "opportunistic" to me, she sounded like a person who is a) principled, and b) pragmatic, who was agonized by this situation. I think she felt bullied, and believed that the way she was pressed was beyond the realm of politics as usual. If it took "bridge gate" for her to realize she can speak up and not get crushed, then that's all the more proof that she felt constrained.

(14,061 posts)But not in the Alternate Universe of Joe Scarborough.
She raised this issue about funds weeks ago. And it's totally understandable why she felt she had to tread lightly.
Now Mika is throwing Zimmer under the bus, but also admits that there's a lot of questions that need to be answered.
I'm usually long gone by the time this show comes on -- I don't know how people can watch it on a daily basis.

Anyone who continues to defend Christie will find themselves on the wrong side of history.
Concur with you on the show quality. I rarely watch that program, it's just dreadful!

(666 posts)I stopped watching this show about a year ago, Mika at one time had a mind of her own, but now she goes along with whatever morning asshole has to say. This show plus Meet the Press which I can't watch because of Gregory, he should go back and watch some shows of years gone bye so see what real journalism is all about.

(14,061 posts)Fort Lee merely connected the dots for her. It sounds like prior to that, she had her suspicions, but you can't go up against someone like Chris Christie with just a gut feel that something isn't right. Local and state politics are minefields. That goes triple in Jersey.
Dustlawyer
(10,495 posts)but..." The thing is, she hadn't given in to the pressure yet either. She said she was between a rock and a hard place and she was. It's easy for these Monday-morning quarterbacks to say what she should have done when it wasn't their career/future involved. I think that she still thought she might talk them out of their position.
This current attack is yet another lame attempt to discredit and distract from the real issue here, Christie's people (and Christie himself) broke the law!

(67,108 posts)action at that time. She's dealing with a pack of bullies with big clubs to use. Equality and fairness aren't part of that crowd, rather, intimidation rules. And that crowd is unfit for political office in a supposed democracy.

(28,189 posts)In the prior environment, with an almost 70% approval rating, another prosecutor getting fired for challenging someone Christie apparently liked, and seeing how Bret Schundler (former mayor of neighboring Jersey City) was treated...
She had no alternative besides waiting, else she'd be attacked and dismissed as well.

They're going to get left in the dust while Rachel, Steve, Chris, and LO'D do the real reporting on the Gov Scandal that keeps growing daily. While they're sitting back trying to squash it.
Newsflash for mika and joe.. Dawn Zimmer has more character in her little toe than youse could only wish for if you cared about such things. lol

Uh...yeah, most mayors of small towns in states governed by powerful people will back down rather than stir shit. Zimmer was put in a tough spot, and as Kornacki pointed out, the development did not get built.

(63,912 posts)When Mika said she would taken the Sandy money, he said "then YOU would have caved."
The one thing I wish Kornacki had pointed out was that Dawn herself admitted to him that she probably should have stood up to the Lt. Governor. She is feeling remorse for not doing so, for better or worse. So I see her in a very human position, trying to do the best thing for her city.
I wish more could have been said about the fact that Dawn said that to go along with the Rocekfeller Group's project would have exposed her (and the city of Hoboken) to legal troubles down the line. Then of course the Joe and Mika's would have trooped in saying she wussed out...Dawn couldn't win...

(2,434 posts)logical and objective in the onslaught of "Christie-love" spewing from Joe and Mika. He's actually viewing Zimmer as a reasonable person and acting in an understandable manner. Unlike Mika, he does not say anything about her gender. How dare Mika act as if a woman would pull out her claws and act unreasonably. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Thanks a lot Mika.

(291 posts)She said that a few days back, before the Mayor of Hoboken came into the news. Did she know something? You can see why the mayor was reluctant to come forward. At the time Christie had a lot of support. Joe Scum really needs to take his meds.

(9,954 posts)...was Mika repeatedly advising how women should/would have handled the problem. I understand it her point - but found it bizarre for her to give it so much emphasis - to support her view (Zimmer is bad/a liar/whatever) based their both being female. This seemed to be the deal breaker or Mika - that they were two women and a good woman (like Mika) would have acted differently with a man's female subordinate. I'm not sure I would have acted like Mika wishes - I would feel myself and my city could be threatened. I would probably keep quiet and think about the situation, not blow-up at the state official and make demands.

(34,376 posts)didn't really say very much to defend Christie. The upshot of the piece is that if there's even a grain of truth in Mayor Zimmer's story, 2016 is the least of Christie's worries & that he'd be lucky to survive as governor. I was actually expecting a more spirited defense of Christie. The interviewer, Savannah Guthrie, I think, asked for this reaction to Christie slamming MSNBC. Scarborough laughed & said they must not have caught his show because they were such Christie cheerleaders that they should've renamed it "Good Morning Trenton." Ugh.

(63,912 posts)They have some good guests. I love it when Dr. Dean is on and when they had Paul Krugman on.
What I like to catch is just the republican talking points of the day from Joe. I often catch the drift of a story in the afternoon and have a feeling that it's going to be fodder for the pukes. And sure enough, Joe weighs in the next morning on the show...he probably gets all prepped the afternoon before and develops a narrative...I like it when his narrative gets shot down which it does pretty regularly...he's a bully and thus vulnerable to lots of people wanting to take him down...fun to watch!

(145,176 posts)The fact that Mayor Zimmer made positive statements about Christie in the past does not really help Christie as to these charges. These are not prior inconsistent statements and actually could help booster Mayor Zimmer's credibility .
