Joe's wondering why she waited until now to say something about the funds. He's suggesting she's just piling on for political gain. He's also baiting Kornacki.

She certainly didn't sound "opportunistic" to me, she sounded like a person who is a) principled, and b) pragmatic, who was agonized by this situation. I think she felt bullied, and believed that the way she was pressed was beyond the realm of politics as usual. If it took "bridge gate" for her to realize she can speak up and not get crushed, then that's all the more proof that she felt constrained.

When Mika said she would taken the Sandy money, he said "then YOU would have caved."

The one thing I wish Kornacki had pointed out was that Dawn herself admitted to him that she probably should have stood up to the Lt. Governor. She is feeling remorse for not doing so, for better or worse. So I see her in a very human position, trying to do the best thing for her city.

I wish more could have been said about the fact that Dawn said that to go along with the Rocekfeller Group's project would have exposed her (and the city of Hoboken) to legal troubles down the line. Then of course the Joe and Mika's would have trooped in saying she wussed out...Dawn couldn't win...

I understand it her point - but found it bizarre for her to give it so much emphasis - to support her view (Zimmer is bad/a liar/whatever) based their both being female. This seemed to be the deal breaker or Mika - that they were two women and a good woman (like Mika) would have acted differently with a man's female subordinate. I'm not sure I would have acted like Mika wishes - I would feel myself and my city could be threatened. I would probably keep quiet and think about the situation, not blow-up at the state official and make demands.

The upshot of the piece is that if there's even a grain of truth in Mayor Zimmer's story, 2016 is the least of Christie's worries & that he'd be lucky to survive as governor. I was actually expecting a more spirited defense of Christie. The interviewer, Savannah Guthrie, I think, asked for this reaction to Christie slamming MSNBC.
