Halliburton Manager Gets One Year Probation For Destroying Evidence Of 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon Disaster
Dominic Rushe , THE GUARDIAN
JAN. 22, 2014,
A former Halliburton manager was sentenced to one year of probation on Tuesday for destroying evidence in the aftermath of BP's fatal 2010 Deepwater Horizon blowout, which claimed 11 lives.
Anthony Badalamenti, former cementing technology director for Halliburton, which was BP's cement contractor on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, had faced a maximum of one year in prison. The 62-year-old pleaded guilty in October to one count of destruction of evidence.
US district judge Jay Zainey sentenced Badalamenti to perform 100 hours of community service and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine on top of the years probation. "I still feel that you're a very honorable man," he told Badalamenti. "I have no doubt that you've learned from this mistake."
Badalamenti expressed remorse for causing "undue stress" to his relatives and friends. "I am truly sorry for what I did," he said.
The court heard that Badalamenti instructed two Halliburton employees to delete data uncovered during a post-spill review of the cement job on the well. Halliburton had already pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge related to Badalamenti's conduct. It notified the justice department about the deletion of the data, which could not be recovered, and last September it agreed to pay a $200,000 fine to settle the matter

Reporting from Las Vegas A Utah man lionized by environmentalists for crashing a 2008 government auction of energy leases near two national parks was sentenced to two years in prison and fined $10,000 on Tuesday.
U.S. District Judge Dee Benson in Salt Lake City ordered Tim DeChristopher taken into custody immediately.
I'm not saying there isn't a place for civil disobedience," Benson said. "But it can't be the order of the day."
In a roughly 35-minute address to the court, DeChristopher, 29, said his actions were necessary to highlight the threat that climate change poses to the planet.
"My intent both at the time of the auction and now was to expose, embarrass and hold accountable the oil and gas industry, to point that it cut into their $100-billion profits," he said.

So this guy saves land from an illegal auction and gets 2 years, this guy lies to help a company rape the land and get away with it and he gets no jail time.
