The U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, better known as the Senate Intelligence Committee, published an 85-page report (pdf) today on the attack that left four Americans dead in Benghazi in September 2012. Its findings will likely seem pretty familiar.

The State Department’s failure to heed warnings and requests for more security by diplomatic staff left the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, and its CIA annex vulnerable to the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks that ultimately took the lives of four Americans, according to an unclassified Senate Intelligence Committee report released Wednesday.

The report, which the committee approved by a voice vote, concluded that the attacks could have been prevented and makes several recommendations for improving security of U.S. diplomatic facilities in areas where U.S. personnel are likely to face threats.

If this seems to cover familiar ground, that’s because previous investigations have led to very similar conclusions. The Washington Post’s Aaron Blake noted that Republicans, especially those eager to tear down former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are likely to be “sorely disappointed” by the findings.

Part of my motivation in compiling these graphics was to create a so-called sledgehammer to combat "the crazy" ... to debunk the Republican propaganda.

Why are we always on defense? It's time to go on offense.

As I posted below in another reply, if Benghazi is a scandal, it's a REPUBLICAN scandal, starting with the Republicans refusal to heed Secretary Clinton's warnings about cutting back on funding for embassy security, and, after the actual attack in Benghazi, followed by Republicans concocting a whole conspiracy theory and establishing hearings to bring down the president. Both actions -- or rather inaction in first case, and overreaction (wild speculation and unfounded accusations) in the second -- render the GOP derelict in the first and depraved in the second.

Such dereliction and depravity make it a REPUBLICAN scandal.

And it's time to hold Republicans accountable.

Republicans slashed diplomatic security budget, still trying to cut more

May 09, 2013

As part of the Republican majority that has controlled the House the last two years, Mr. Issa joined in cutting nearly a half-billion dollars from the State Department’s two main security accounts. One covers things like security staffing, including local guards, armored vehicles and security technology; the other, embassy construction and upgrades. In 2011 and 2012, President Obama sought a total of $5 billion, and the House approved $4.5 billion.

Utah teabagging Rep. Jason Chaffetz has been a leading proponent of Benghazi conspiracy theories, yet even he isn't shy to proclaim his votes against diplomatic security:

O’BRIEN: Is it true that you voted to cut the funding for embassy security?
CHAFFETZ: Absolutely. Look, we have to make priorities and choices in this country.

Their priorities have consequences. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton (among others) had long warned Republicans that they were weakening national security by cutting, well, security. Back in February of 2011:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton emerged from a meeting with House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) sharply critical of proposed Republican cuts to the State Department budget, warning they “will be detrimental to America’s national security."

She WARNED Republicans.

They didn't listen.

The GOP must be held accountable.

I'm particularly angered by the media's refusal to ask W to clarify himself about how he first learned of the 9/11 attacks:

First he said he saw it on a TV;
Then he said he was notified of it.

Which is it? No one wants to ask...

What we didn’t know is what happened in between the briefing and the fishing, and now Suskind is here to tell us. Bush listened to the briefing, Suskind says, then told the CIA briefer: “All right. You’ve covered your ass, now.”

on EVERY news show, calling robo-calls, doing everything to get this message out, WHEN the republicans were pointing their pointy little fingers.

Why now? Why, when it's all forgotten, is everyone ready to fight back?

It's the same EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

It's the corporations that control the MACHINERY of the democratic party that this is allowed. Because those who control THE MACHINERY are the ones who also control the republican machinery. And democrats are the red-headed-step-children. We don't count to THE MACHINERY.

Tue Jan 28, 2014, 05:22 PM
Jan 2014

Tue Jan 28, 2014

Last seen holding President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid accountable for shutting down the government in October, Ted "Calgary" "LOL" Cruz has demands for President Obama's State of the Union speech later tonight:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday called on President Obama to use his State of the Union address on Tuesday to answer questions about the 2012 attack that killed four U.S. officials in Benghazi, Libya, as well as other issues like IRS targeting and ObamaCare.

It's like Texas elected Glenn Beck, but without the sense of humor. The good news is that he's still hilarious. Awesomely so.
