Do you check your personal credit history? If you do how often do you check it, when you do what information are you looking for on the report?
Have you been effected by the Target/Neiman Marcus breach? If so how (whatever you feel like sharing...).
Also feel free to vote in this poll, it just asks what you score range is. I realize this poll is not anonymous but I am just looking for a trend and that's all.
I am trying to put some information together for a project I am working on and just need some more fresh ideas, anything you say will obviously be kept anonymous. I appreciate any help you can give me.

(9,610 posts)I have not used any credit in at least a dozen years.

(28,749 posts)And what type of payment do you use most often?
Again no answer is required just trying to come up with some generalizations...

(68,644 posts)But that is still a ding.
Add to that my having been shopping for mortgages for a refi and for an additional investment property.
Still, average of the three services never drops below 800.
Never carry a balance on a card, and I only have one card and one debit card.
It's not hard to have good credit. Or, rather, it's not hard to avoid having bad credit.

(49,313 posts)we don't use much credit, own our home and only have a lease on one of the cars.
we seem to get good rates when we do need credit though.
i check just to make sure it's all mine and there's no incorrect info
and no, i wasn't involved in the latest debacle altho a couple years ago hubby's debit card just stopped working. turns out some of the customer's info was hacked from our credit union and they turned his card off without notice. my card on the same account with a different number wasn't effected.
i found that odd.

(11,649 posts)i put everything on them and i pay my balance every month. i get 1% cash back on both -- sometimes more -- discover offers more for different things. it's nice to make money on them. the only time i use cash is for gratuities in the nail salon and hair salon. i check my cards on-line every day to make sure everything is "kosher". i also check my bank balances every day.
also have an "old navy" card. for every $100 spent i get a coupon for $5.00 off.
i have an american express card for costco, but i rarely go there.
recently checked my credit score and it was 801.

(28,749 posts)As long as I can pay it I feel it's acceptable to use.

(450 posts)I used to have great credit until I had a health crisis and lost my job. Now I have charge offs and dozens of credit collection accounts. I won't be returning to work so my creditors and their collectors can't collect anything. I never owned a house and returned my car rather then have it repossessed, I couldn't afford the auto insurance any way.

(13,485 posts)But I do not borrow, owe, or have a mortgage and my debt is 0. Everything is cash or debt. I plan on keeping it that way. I have no desire to borrow or pay interest ever. If I had a choice I would not be part of the financial system at all.
on edit: I thought I would add that I have 2 working bank accounts, one for holding and the other for debt card use only. The card account only holds what cash is needed for any expenses that need to be paid. Money is transfered to it automatically on a weekly basis or personally. The other account has no access except transfer.

(16,199 posts)That ensures that I get see each credit agencies data once a year. I look for any accounts I don't recognize as well as accurate reporting on the accounts I do have. Other than a mortgage, I have credit cards that get paid in full each month. I just crank out the reward points and cash 'em in from time to time.
No impact from the Target breach to date. I may not be exposed as I switched from a bank to a Credit Union and hadn't shopped there in the original time frame. If the old bank account info was stolen, it won't work anymore.

(38,313 posts)... and yes, we had insurance!
Credit cards died in the E.R.
Then college tuition costs for kids.
I really don't give a fuck anymore.

(22,380 posts)I have one credit card (Capitol 1 - double miles - 50 or so a year) and charge everything possible to it. I call utility companies or insurance companies and charge everything on it to get the miles. I pay it off every month.
I have taken 3 free trips last year as a result = Cap 1 makes it really easy, no blackout dates, and I can book the cheapest possible trip I can find.
I have other credit cards I don't use but don't cancel if they have no annual fee.
I have a debit card to a Credit Union Account, I use it enough times a month on amounts 10 bucks or so to get the interest they give you on your balance if you do that.
I don't have much, but I'm damn careful with what I have.
I don't like to spend money on interest and do what I can to avoid it.
Hope that's what you wanted to know
