"Sub-human mongrel"? Ted Nugent is a doctrinaire white supremacist.
I will admit to not following the Ted Nugent freakshow too closely. Obviously, he has always been a racist and knuckle-dragger.
But the clip I just heard on TV where Nugent calls Obama a "sub-human mongrel" is the real stuff... the specific language of vintage formalized racial theory of the sort one typically only hears in public from costumed KKK members... the folks who stagger around bellowing "white power!" The Jerry Springer-level, American History X, prison gang, stormfront, aryan nation over-the-top stuff where even most Republicans start feeling a little queasy.
It's like the Dave Chapell bit about when racism is so stark and up front it provokes marvel more than anger.
"Wow... that's really racist."
No layers of code. No dog whistle there... Not at all surprising Nugent thinks it, but I was a bit taken aback that he casually says that stuff to a news camera. His perception of the national comfort level with that talk is chilling.
