http://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/20140124/articles/140129767?title=Animal-shelter-appeals-for-public%27s-help-after-huge-dog-rescueThe Sonoma Humane Society is appealing for the public's help after the agency this week rescued 61 dogs from a woman who was being evicted from her home outside the city of Redding, some five hours away.
The unusual rescue has stretched the facility on Highway 12 just west of Santa Rosa beyond capacity, prompting the plea for supplies and volunteers to take in the Finnish Lapphunds.
The medium-sized dogs were being treated Friday for a range of medical problems, including lice, heartworm and fractured teeth, possibly from trying to chew through crates or fencing, said Kiska Icard, the Humane Society executive director.

Does DU have an Animal Rescue group? I volunteer with Coalition to Unchain Dogs, and am looking into more "hard-core" animal rescue. Primarily transport, due to work and having two cats at home. There's a case now in NC -- poor Buddy, sodomized and stabbed -- that unbearably horrific. Here's a link to the rescue's Facebook page with a warning that some of the pics are quite graphic:

http://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/20140127/articles/140129634?title=Donations-pour-in-for-rescued-dogs
Donations are pouring in to the Sonoma Humane Society after the agency last week rescued 61 Finnish Lapphunds from a reported puppy mill operation in Shasta County.
The Humane Society west of Santa Rosa had collected $30,000 in donations as of Monday, according to Kiska Icard, the agency's executive director.
That's in addition to 750 donated dog collars, 200 leashes and 25 stacks of linens, each one of the stacks 6 feet tall, Icard said.
