The Iran–Contra affair (Persian: ایران-کنترا?, Spanish: caso Irán-Contra), also referred to as Irangate[citation needed], Contragate[citation needed] or the Iran–Contra scandal, was a political scandal in the United States that came to light in November 1986. During the Reagan administration, senior administration officials secretly facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, the subject of an arms embargo.[1] Some U.S. officials also hoped that the arms sales would secure the release of several hostages and allow U.S. intelligence agencies to fund the Nicaraguan Contras. Under the Boland Amendment, further funding of the Contras by the government had been prohibited by Congress.

What is he thinking? One could almost believe resentment at being used.

One noticeable aspect of the body language in this photo is the complete relaxed appearance of Poppy Bush. He does not assume the posture and attitude of a second-in-command. And recall Alexander Hague's attempt at the time of Ronnie's shooting to assume command. That cabal of Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, et al. ran that puppet government during Reagan's whole time in office. And they never disbanded even through Clinton's term. We were played. The American people elected an actor. And that was his greatest role.

And his undead co-horts have kept rising out of their underground lairs ever since. EEEK!

Because he was the.... Masterbrain!

Phil Hartman as Reagan...

President Reagan: Alright, let's get down to business! I'm only going to go through this once, so it's essential that you pay attention! One, Casey!

William Casey: Yes, Sir!

President Reagan: You'll spearhead our new operation to fund the Contras. The C-5As with the TOW missiles and the grenade launchers will leave for South Africa at 0800 hours! I want you to supervise the loading. Two, Regan!

Don Regan: Yes, Sir.

President Reagan: Well.. I'm afriad you're going to have to resign. But.. first you'll make a public statement supporting me, which I wrote myself. It's over there on the word processor, just key in and press 5. The code name is.. Oh, alright, I'll do it for you! Now, any questions?

William Casey: Mr. President, you're going so fast. There's still a lot about the Iran-Contra Affair I don't understand..

President Reagan: And you don't need to understand! I'm the President! Only I need to understand! Is that clear?

William Casey: Yes.

President Reagan: Alright. [ presses button to make art print on wall lower to reveal a multi-colored map of the world ] Carlucci, you're new, here's how we run things. The red countries are the countries we sell arms to. The green countries are the countries where we wash our money. The blue countries are..

President Reagan: Damn! Okay, let's get it over with. Everybody out. [ staffers get up ] Come on, come on! Move! [ they exit ] This is the part of the job I hate!

RIP Phil.

I suspect most his presidency was a cloud and it was Bush running the show. He was just an empty vessel thrown out in front of the camera to give speeches and smile nicely. The strings were being pulled by the administration. It wouldn't surprise me if Reagan had little knowledge of this at all, or was only told what he needed to be told. Of course, we'll never know the scope of this because it was swiftly swept under the rug.

at the reporters below, soon after he had been shot in the assassination attempt. Nancy Reagan was in the room with him.

A reporter yelled up "How are you, Mr. President?" Reagan didn't reply. And then, very softly and very clearly Nancy Reagan could be heard saying "say you're all right, dear." Immediately after, Reagan answered the reporter with "I'm all right." I thought then that Reagan was becoming senile. I do believe he was a figurehead throughout his second term.

When giving testimony you have five choices.

Choice #1: Plead the 5th over and over which looks bad.

Choice #2: Tell the truth with the protection of immunity.

Choice #3: Commit perjury and go to jail.

Choice #4: Fall on your sword for the right price.

Choice #5: Claim you can't recall.

The last was very popular during Iran-Contra. Multiple actors sat there and claimed they couldn't remember details.

Reagan acted like he was suddenly a kindly old senile grandfather type and blew the myth that jelly beans were "smart pills".
