Conservative MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Monday suggested that possible Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clintons ability to attack Republicans for anti-women laws like proposed invasive transvaginal probe abortion laws had been compromised because her husband had an affair in the 1990s.
Over the weekend, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) had said that former President Bill Clinton was partially responsible for the so-called war on women because of his affair with Monica Lewinsky. The Kentucky Republican with presidential ambitions asserted that it would be difficult for voters not to blame Hillary Clinton for Bill Clintons behavior.
Scarborough, who voted to impeach Bill Clinton, on Monday insisted that he would never bring that stuff up in a gazillion years.
It was such an ugly chapter in our history, he explained. Its just like the Iraq War in 2003. There are just some things, we fought those battles. Lets let them go.
That said, Scarborough continued. If Hillary Clinton attacks the Republican Partys handling of women and treatment of women and disrespect for women and suggests theyre misogynists etc., etc., etc., it does seem to be a fair question to ask right now a few years out, does the media have a responsibility to say, Well, lets see what happened when you were in the White House and how women were treated when you were in the governors mansion and the White House? Is that fair?

Just to make sure I'm clear on this, if a woman's husband has an affair, it is his wife's fault. Right?

(5,909 posts)this kind of attack makes sense. I don't care as they would never vote Democratic anyway.
Instead of being appalled by Republican talking points, I am now appalled if they say anything remotely sane (which they never do) and right now can't even think of one thing off the top of my head.

(13,081 posts)It's not really crazy -- I think most of Republican viewpoints aren't totally insane. The opinion, though, is so profoundly illogical that it certainly seems crazy (and also immoral and groundless, but that's also par for the Republican course).
Let me see if I can summarize Scarborough's opinion: Hilary Clinton is in no position to discuss abortion rights or conservatives' atrocious record of equal rights because her husband cheated on her fifteen years ago. Yep, makes perfect sense.

(16,254 posts)It should be sent to these jerks when they bring up Clinton. Although his actions disgusted me, I don't think Clinton pursued Monica as much as the other way around. I seem to recall her as conniving to get as much contact as possible.
I wonder what happened to her?
