They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said 'No, No, No'

When they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.......

Study Claims Existence of ‘Caffeine Use Disorder’

A study out of American University is unleashing upon the unsuspecting public yet another type of disorder to acquire—and this one seems pretty easy to get.

Yes, it’s “caffeine use disorder,” characterized by notable difficulties afflicted persons encounter when they try to curb their consumption of the drug, as well as by withdrawal symptoms.

American University psychology professor Laura Juliano, who co-authored “Caffeine Use Disorder: A Comprehensive Review and Research Agenda” with three other researchers, delivered the bad news for overindulgent caffeinators (via CBS DC):

“There is misconception among professionals and lay people alike that caffeine is not difficult to give up. However, in population-based studies, more than 50 percent of regular caffeine consumers report that they have had difficulty quitting or reducing caffeine use,” Juliano said in a press release. ”Through our research, we have observed that people who have been unable to quit or cut back on caffeine on their own would be interested in receiving formal treatment—similar to the outside assistance people can turn to if they want to quit smoking or tobacco use.”

.....(snip).....

So, what’s the point, besides having another name for something potentially wrong with you? The authors submit that restriction recommendations should be included in marketing caffeinated products. And if enough people buy their argument, we could be in for a whole new cottage industry: rehab for coffee junkies. .................(more)

Alcohol is a helluva drug.

I also love the work she did with The Dap Kings. Here's a song from them for all the caffeine fiends.

For coffee, drink decaf every other cup. After a few weeks decaf and caff will taste the same. Increase the decaf until that's all you drink. Eventually you will require only one cup a day, then none.

I know if I get a caffeine jump start in the morning, I can usually manage to start moving a full hour before I can without it. If you've got RA, you know what I mean about moving. It's literal.

There are a lot worse things to need in the morning, whether it's to clear the nighttime fog out or start the joints moving. I sincerely doubt it needs intervention.

We haven't seen him since Tuesday night so I figured his family had tried an intervention but he escaped and made his way to Fox News.

(yes, I know about no caffeine prior to stress tests, I don't give it to them) but many times the diet restrictions make no sense. Like hospice patients with weeks to live on restricted diets....really? seriously?

For stimulants, again and again, it's just tea and coffee, rarely alcohol, let alone anything else. Balzac drank fifty cups of coffee a day and so did Voltaire. The latter's doctor warned him that it was a slow poison, at which Voltaire quipped that it must be, since he'd been drinking it for seventy years.

I no longer "drink of the weed".
Don't drive "135" even if I could.
Rarely have a half pint sit down with Uncle Jack.
Never cared for gambling.
All heck, I don't even chase them "wild wild women" any more. Much.

Coffee? Ahhhhaaaaa laddy, now that's a different story.
Vanilla extract, cinnamon sticks, egg shells, cocoa powder, let me count the ways!
There be a pot on right now.

No chance you'll pry that mug from me cold dead fingers.
The caffeine will make sure of that.
