(24,853 posts)I've rarely seen President Obama speak when he didn't have the relevant props behind him...
I remember one time when he spoke before the ACA was passed... there were "folks" (he loves that word) behind him in white smocks who weren't in any way involved in the medical care industry.
I'm betting they were there not because of any decision HE made though... it's just how he's marketed.

President Obama, seeking to pitch his plan for a health care overhaul as the Senate Finance Committee moves toward a critical vote, invited a group of white-coated doctors to the Rose Garden on Monday, telling them that nobody has more credibility with the American people on this issue than you do.
...
The 150 doctors, representing all 50 states, were planning to do media interviews with home state newspapers and television stations about their White House visit a kind of local marketing effort.
...
Update | 3:42 p.m.
As noted below, the group that supplied many of the doctors for the Rose Garden event, Doctors for America, is a nonprofit organization that grew out of Doctors for Obama, which worked to help elect the president. But it also appears to be working closely with Organizing for America, Mr. Obamas political organization. Its members include physicians like Dr. Alice Chen, an internist at UCLA Medical Center, who said during an interview in the Rose Garden that she often feels as if my hands are tied in trying to provide quality care to patients who lack insurance.
Dr. Chen said she intended to speak to fellow doctors and encourage them to write letters to the editor in support of Mr. Obamas plan. She is currently doing just that on the Organizing for America Web site, which has posted a letter in which Dr. Chen asks fellow doctors to help influence the debate at this crucial moment by making their voices heard.

I doubt that's true, but I just wanted to throw out that possibility.

(21,115 posts)they seem to think the guy is completely brain damaged and doesn't know what he is even doing...however...I don't see how the Vice President of Human Resources....would be allowing himself to be "used as a prop" to bash Obama....like they are trying to do! I doubt this honored veterand and hard working American would appreciate this characterization! Or should I say MISCHARACTERIZATION.
A native of Arizona, Remsburg has been awarded a number of honors, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, and is the Vice President of Human Resources for Telgian Corporation and a retired US Air Force Reserve firefighter, according to the Department of Defense.

(25,699 posts)Because to be quite honest, I haven't seen the smartest of posters on either side.
But since it seems that you can't go at least ten minutes without knocking a new post about hte same thing onto my latest page, what the fuck, might as join the party.
Corey Remsberg was indeed a prop. He - and in fact the other people referenced by the president, were used to illustrate something the president was saying. It's not exclusive to them, or to President Obama at all - political figures of all stripes and locales and nations do the same thing. It's not a good thing and it's not a bad thing.
Whether mr. Remsberg was exploited is another question entirely, and I would feel that is indeed up to how he himself feels about the situation. Given that he was there by invite and hasn't spoken out again the situation, I have to conclude that he doesn't feel so - at least based on what i know. i can't say what is or is not going unspoken in his head, right?
Next question is whether it was tacky or in bad taste. This is up to the viewer to decide. I for one feel that zooming in on this man and calling what happened to him a "mistake" is indeed in extremely poor taste. It wasn't a mistake. Eating too much anchovy pizza is a mistake. Watching the grammies is a mistake. Sticking your tongue to a frozen lamp pole is a mistake. What happened to Corey Remsberg was not a mistake, and to call it so belittles his situation, that of thousands more - to say nothing of the Afghan losses and casualties! - all while exonerating the criminals responsible for what happened to them. And to invite applause, much of it from those same criminals?!
I'm sure the president figured it was a good gesture, and as far as i can tell, mr. Remsburg didn't mind. But I'm entitled to my opinion, and that opinion is rather dismayed that the criminal horror that led to the maiming of this man and many, many, many more besides, is relegated to the same category as staying up too late on a work night or picking your nose after scratching your ass.

(65,616 posts)I was just outraged at his 10 deployments and got pile driven into the ground by The Crew for it. As a vet I find it in poor taste to use military professionals as props and I won't be changing that opinion anytime soon. I NEVER once said anything about Obama...it was all assumed by the foaming Pitt haters that anyone agreeing with Poor William, be sent to the mines.
The POTUS made a great speech. It must have been epic, because the GOP shit all over itself and demanded the M$M let them talk and talk and talk some lines of bullshit.
And I don't think it worked, nobody bought the GOP brown bag of feces.

It reminds me of people referring to the speakers at the DNC, including Stacy Lihn, as a "prop." The RW claimed Sandra Fluke was a "prop."
I don't understand why Corey Remsberg was singled out to be made a mockery of.

(25,699 posts)Pointing out a horribly maimed man, who but for a criminal and corrupt administration and its aftermath would be well and safe, and saying "mistakes were made" as a response to what he has endured... while the creeps that had a direct hand in the maiming of this man gave themselves a smug round of applause?
Like I said, I'm sure the president's intent was good. He's a good guy. But this time was one HELL of a tin ear moment.
I haven't seen any mocking of mr. Remsberg, myself - but like I said I've been avoiding these threads because i think I could get more intellectual stimulation by rubbing a dildo against my head.
