HERCULES (CBS SF) Authorities in Hercules are investigating the sexual assault of a transgender student in a restroom at Hercules Middle-High School on Monday.
Police said shortly after 11:00 a.m., school resource officers were called to the student health center for a possible assault.
The 15-year-old victim, who was born as a girl and identifies as a boy, told authorities he went into the boys restroom in the 300 building on the high school side of the campus. As he was leaving the bathroom, the victim was confronted by three unidentified male juveniles.
Forced into the handicap stall and physically and sexually assaulted, Reserve Detective Connie Van Putten of the Hercules Police Department told KPIX 5 Monday evening.

(52,169 posts)it is clear that school has mammoth problems. When you have two transgendered students bullied and our assaulted in one month and you have a principal that gets a 94 % no confidence vote something has to change and change fast.

(8,830 posts)I hope he soon can identify the attackers. Kudos, too, to the police for their strong position (would have preferred that "regardless of who they are" was left off the statement, but that's a minor quibble at this point).
It sounds like the principal needs to be immediately removed and a thorough investigation of exactly what kind of toxic environment he/she created be performed, asap.

(13,468 posts)What kind of parents produce offspring that do this to other kids? Reprehensible.

(12,159 posts)Humans.
The pages of the history books of humanity are filled with horrendous acts perpetrated against others. It is a trait that crosses borders, race (if you believe in the concept of race, I don't), believe in one or many or no gods. It is something miswired in our natures and gets expressed by those with a lack of conscience.
These twirps no doubt justified their actions by saying- "Let's show this girl whose acting like a boy what girls are for." or some other mindless drivel. Let the sword of justice fall where it will and may they find out that behaving like a bad man will get you locked up with a lot of really bad men.

(13,468 posts)But I want to go a step further and look at the obviously lack-luster people who bring up kids that can do this!

(12,159 posts)He had 2 sons. When they moved from a small hill country town to Big D one of his sons did not adapt too well, the other took the move in stride and was well adjusted. The former son got into all kinds of trouble and ended up murdering his girl friend. He is in prison for life. These two sons were reared much the same and had the same parents who loved them and yet one is a murderer and the other is not. So are the parents to blame?
The father continued to be in his incarcerated son's life visiting him often at the prison. I wish I had a link to the story but I can only remember what I've posted and not any details like names. But it is true.
Sometimes you can blame upbringing or genes and sometimes there is no real explanation. There are lots of people who had a miserable childhood who grew up to be good people and some who had a good childhood who grew up to be monsters and vice versa.
There are no easy answers in life. We must be careful not to judge people because of preconceived notions.

(13,468 posts)Because, ultimately, these kids are the responsibility of the parents to try to make sure get help, if they are beyond what the parents can deal with.
And seriously, is it not INCREDIBLY likely that these kids have grown up listening to homophobic slurs at home every day?
I have read too many stories that end with some parent crying about what a good kid their baby was, after other lives have been utterly destroyed by them.

(12,159 posts)But I think it better to reserve judgement until one actually knows the facts. You or I have not met the parents or even know the first thing about them, so any judgement is not based on facts but are assumptions.

(13,468 posts)Parents should not be left out of the equation when kids do horrific things. It is avoidance to do so. But I guess that somehow helps YOU cope.

(11,733 posts)The transgender Hercules High student who sent the school community reeling after he reported being attacked and sexually assaulted at the campus Monday has recanted his story, police said Tuesday afternoon.
"On March 4, 2014 the student was interviewed by a Detective from the Hercules Police Department. The student admitted he fabricated the entire story," the statement from the police read. "The investigation ... has been closed. The Police Department is reviewing any possible charges against the reporting party."
News of the violent assault against the 15-year-old student had the school administration scrambling to defend itself after what appeared to be just the latest incident in a troubling pattern of violence and lack of civility at the campus.
