How to win EVERY argument with your Republican friend (I guarantee!)

After they finish regurgitating their Fox News talking points, simply say:

Did You know that dishonest salesmen tell you many truths and facts? They appeal to your rational side before they hijack your emotional side. They rely on the fact that you don't know what you don't know and are too intellectually lazy to investigate.

Okay, I lied.

You can't win any arguments with your Republican friends because they are incapable of argument. If it's amicable, your Republican friend will say something like...

You believe what you want to believe, and I'll believe what I want to believe.

The ones I know aren't. Fact is many of them LOVE to argue. They aren't very good at it, though, unless interruptions and loud volume levels count for points. What I find them to be incapable of is reasoned thought and acceptance of demonstrable fact.

to me, that is the basis of argument.

They are incapable of argument. Only parroting at various volumes, indeed.

Very few people are "anti" Second Amendment. What people want is for the interpretation of the 2nd amendment to include the FULL text, including the specific conditional clause, not just the last few words.

The irrational people (usually righties) refuse to do so in keeping with the rest of this thread.

They first appeal to your rational side by trying to get you to accept their re-interpretation, and then when facts, SC rulings etc... prove them wrong, they leap to saying stupid crap like "you support murdering children," "you're a racist," "dumb redneck" and the always favorite, "NRA shill," all in a pathetic attempt to hijack your emotional side.

As in most cases, the irrational people are those who try to pass opinion off as fact.

Very funny when you accuse people in a generalization of being "anti 2nd amendment". What fact is in that comment?

5-4 SC rulings don't make anything a fact when there are 5 right wing justices.

As for re-interpretation, that is the stock and trade of the gun fanatics. "A well-regulated militia" seems to disappear before their very eyes.

Pol Pot, the mullahs, cocaine-running will take so long to understand because they think all that's a liburl conspiracy by schools and media; their well is poisoned, so they'll bounce back by saying that Clintoon "did" the OKC bombing to distract us from Mena and Vince Foster

so you'd have to get quotes by GOP Senators supporting Zia, Iran-Contra, Pol Pot, etc.

in fact it's the Eternal September: to have an argument today you need to be an expert in Roman history, theory of history, sociology, how both science and history work, the 13th and 16th-19th centuries, Liberation Theology, various political spectrums, Reagan's economic and media changes--because one paragraph built entirely out of clichés is literally going to have something wrong in each of those topics!

I don't want to know what happened when they tried to *explain* that word

this is a man who'd start soft-shoeing when the cameras were on (for one DUer back in 2002, IIRC): he also practiced coin tosses (one Super Bowl) and had a felt monster he put on his finger while growling ("You weren't rolling on that, were you?"--Hertsgaard, On Bended Knee: 104-05)
