THREAD: QAnon was enabled in part by former military and intelligence professionals "gone wild." They lent credibility to the myth and laundered QAnon messaging to the public, sometimes via E-list "influencers." Here are some of the key personnel.

2/MICHAEL T. FLYNN is at the very center of the Q operation. As a US Army Lt. General and as former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, he has extensive knowledge of military/intel ops and the mechanics of insurgency. He also deeply resents his treatment by USG – a theme.

3/BILL BINNEY retired in protest from NSA in 2001 after spat with @GenMhayden. He collaborated with Putinphile Oliver Stone (A Good American; Snowden), and has appeared on many Q content channels re: child sex abuse, directed energy weapons; he is part of intj.org

4/ROBERT DAVID STEELE, retired CIA, has appeared on countless Q-influencer channels. He drove the Pizzagate story in 2016. Has ties to Iran-connected ops, and also Russia info channels. Part of intj.org. Reform party pres. candidate, 2012.

5/KIRK WIEBE, former NSA, is a colleague of Binney's. He was part of a pro-Russia group with Binney called VIPS. Has endorsed ITNJ activities. Appeared in a video with Binney and Oliver Stone's son Sean Stone, Sep 2020, on channel "Triangle of Paganism." facebook.com/triangleofpaga…

6/ED LOOMIS, another NSA colleague of Binney and Wiebe; also part of VIPS. He appeared in the Oliver Stone-produced film "A Good American" with Binney.

A brilliant code breaker. A perfect surveillance tool. A flagrant betrayal.

7/LARRY C. JOHNSON is a former CIA + State Dept official, turned conspiracist; also part of VIPS. Signed Dec 2016 VIPS memo saying Russia was not behind the DNC hack; foundational to the Seth Rich lie. Believes Russia did not interfere in 2016.

8/RAY MCGOVERN is a retired CIA official who has been a longtime guest of Alex Jones on InfoWars; also on left channels like Democracy Now. In Jan 2017, he wrote an op-ed with Binney saying DNC emails weren’t hacked, but leaked. Vehemently pro-Assange.

16/PFC PATRICK BERGY, US Army, appears in the documentary “Shadowgate,” by Millie Weaver. Bergy claims he worked at CENTCOM on a program called iPsy. His claims seem suspect, but nevertheless he uses his military status to burnish QAnon talking points.

Russia, China, and Iran come to mind. The US has been involved in disrupting, overthrowing, and otherwise screwing around in, the internal affairs of many countries, especially since the end of WWII. I'm convinced our adversaries do the same. This might just be a manifestation of the Russians playing the long game.

Until I saw this list the idea that "a few" military people were involved just didn't actually sink in as to what that meant. Do we really have that many crazy people in our country/military? I'm honestly just shaking my head. Obviously, wasn't something I really wanted to know. But now I do. What a weekend. Thank heavens for President Biden and VP Harris. I trust them and their people, but I also, obviously, need to know more than I have in the past. Damn, I though retirement was about putting my feet up and watching the daisies grow. Guess not.

One of our basic survival skills was to differentiate between fact and propaganda. I know people serving now and they scare me with their way of thinking. They are angry. There needs to be a major shakeup in the ranks. This is a direct threat to our democracy. I blame it on Faux News and conservative talk radio. This issue needs to be front and center. If you are a new person joining the military and your superiors are so entwined in the conspiracy, it will never change. A lot of my friends now work for government contractors. The sickness goes beyond the military.

On Twitter, Michael Flynn interacted with alt-right, made controversial comments on Muslims, shared fake news
Updated 2:17 PM EST, Fri November 18, 2016

CNN) —
Retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who has been asked to serve as Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser, has, on his verified Twitter account, interacted with far right and anti-Semitic figures, maligned the Muslim faith, and shared unfounded news stories.

A CNN KFile review of Flynn’s Twitter account finds that the retired lieutenant general, who once served as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, tweeted routinely with members of the so-called alt-right movement, going so far as to endorse a book by one controversial figure who regularly makes offensive comments.

Flynn faced criticism in July when he retweeted an anti-Semitic message. Flynn said the retweet was an accident and deleted the message.

Emails to a spokesperson for President-elect Trump and Flynn seeking comment were not returned. A follow up question to Flynn asking who managed his Twitter account also went unreturned.

Tweeting with the fringe:

Flynn regularly interacted on Twitter with members of the alt-right movement — a far right ideological group whose members primarily use social media as platform to spread their message.

On 15 different occasions, Flynn tagged in his tweets alt-right figure Mike Cernovich, who regularly tweets inflammatory and unfounded conspiracy theories.

Cernovich runs a website called Danger and Play, which has pushed conspiracy theories that the Orlando Pulse shooter did not act alone and that Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman was part of a sex cult.

How Michael Flynn morphed from storied officer to purveyor of conspiracy theories

But over the past three years, Flynn took a fee from the Russian government-supported TV outlet, RT; sat next to Russian President Vladimir Putin at an RT-sponsored dinner; and spoke with Russia’s ambassador before Trump took office — and then lied about those conversations to Vice President Pence and the FBI.

For years, Flynn was a social media skeptic, writing that Facebook and Twitter must become “more socially responsible,” adding “positive messaging campaigns about the betterment of humankind.”

Then, after the 2016 election, Flynn insisted that social media were the key to building a pro-Trump, conservative “army of digital soldiers .?.?. irregular warfare at its finest.” He said he’d seen proof on social media that Trump had actually won the popular vote in addition to the electoral college, which is false.

Larry Johnson? I always wondered where he went. Johnson ran the site No Quarter for years. I was a member back in 2007-2008. At the time Johnson claimed to be a dedicated Hillary Clinton supporter. After Barack Obama won the election and Clinton accepted the SOS job, the site turned absolutely toxic with all sorts of ridiculous theories being tossed back and forth. Posters I had once been friendly with turned positively vicious. On a dime, it seemed.

Full disclosure, I was never Barack Obama's biggest fan. The man grew on me over time although I was not without my criticism of certain policies. That being said, the atmosphere on the site took a 180 degree turn to a very anti-Democratic tilt. That's when I left. At the time, Johnson claimed to be a Libertarian, a stance that's never washed with me. Think Steve Bannon.

Anyway, the site suddenly went down, vanished, all traces disappeared.

And so, Johnson pops up like a bad quarter in the middle of the QAnon phenom. Guess I shouldn't be surprised. And what good company he's keeping with the likes of Mike Flynn.

Are all these men disgruntled, former employees? Michael Scheuer? He was a frequent barker of nonsense and conspiracy on Fox News. Jack Posobiec? I'm pretty sure he's a dedicated Trump defender. And Binney? Didn't he question the integrity of our voting machines back in the day?

What a cast of characters!

Excellent find, Nevilledog. Thanks for the post.

He's probably most notorious for his infamous long-running hoax in 2008 about "the whitey tape", whose release he teased incessantly for ages, but which never appeared.

He cropped up again in 2013, spreading the allegation that John Kerry was guilty of war crimes in Vietnam. That claim proved as unfounded as "the whitey tape".

Then in 2017, he emerged from the undergrowth again with more unfounded conspiracy theories:

Last week, the Trump White House ignited a diplomatic row with America’s closest ally when Press Secretary Sean Spicer, looking to bolster President Trump’s baseless wiretap allegations against President Obama, promoted Fox News commentator Andrew Napolitano’s report that Obama used a British intelligence agency to spy on Trump during last year’s presidential campaign. The British Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), which is the agency responsible for the U.K.’s intelligence gathering, then made a rare public statement in order to officially rebuke the claim, calling Napolitano’s report “nonsense” and “utterly ridiculous.”
...
But Napolitano’s claim, which he repeatedly said came from “Fox News sources,” was then seemingly dismissed by Fox News itself. Anchor Shep Smith said on Friday that the network could not confirm Napolitano’s “commentary” and that “Fox News knows of no evidence of any kind that the now-President of the United States was surveilled at any time in any way. Full stop.” The network also said that Napolitano still “stands by his report,” but anchor Bret Baier later reiterated that “the Fox News division was never able to back up those claims.”

So where did Fox News’ “very talented legal mind” come up with this White House–boosted allegation? The New York Times and Politico report that one of the sources was former CIA analyst, blogger, and occasional Russia Today guest Larry C. Johnson, who infamously promoted the false rumor in 2008 that the GOP possessed a bombshell video in which former First Lady Michelle Obama had been recorded making disparaging remarks about white people — also known as the infamous “Whitey tape” hoax. Napolitano apparently asked Johnson to speak with the Times on Friday, and Johnson explained to them that Napolitano had heard about the U.K. wiretap claim through an intermediary who had learned of it through sources in the U.S. intelligence community. Johnson, who maintains that the “Whitey tape” fiasco was the result of him getting played by Clinton operatives during the contentious 2008 primaries, has since denied some of the Times report, but admits that he was one of Napolitano’s sources. Appearing on CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday, Johnson further elaborated that he had posted the theory on an online discussion board and someone passed that post along to Napolitano.

Speaking with Politico, Johnson explained that his own initial source for the U.K. wiretap theory was a Democrat who is not actually in the U.S. intelligence community but has ties there, and was someone “with a history of having access to national security information.” That source, according to Johnson, was “alarmed at what he saw as this meddling in the election.” He says he confirmed the tip with two people in the intelligence community and “we’re not talking janitors or cleaning ladies.”

Johnson also appeared on the state-controlled Russia Today (RT) television network earlier this year to contest the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia interfered in last year’s election. He then repeated that opinion earlier this month when he reappeared on the network one day after Trump tweeted his now notorious allegation that President Obama had illegally ordered a wiretap on him and Trump Tower. In that interview, Johnson — who says he was not paid by RT for his appearances — seems to have made the first-ever public mention of the U.K. wiretap theory, alleging that senior members of the Obama administration had colluded with the U.K. to spy on Trump and then illegally disseminated that information throughout the U.S. government. He has also passed along the theory that U.S. government insiders like the CIA may have hacked the Democratic National Committee during the campaign instead of Russia.

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2017/03/whitey-tape-blogger-was-one-source-of-uk-wiretap-claim.html

So it's not a surprise to see him linked to Q. The surprise would be if anyone ever took anything he claimed seriously again.

I had no idea about the ties to the disgraceful Kerry allegations. I voted for Kerry and that whole smear campaign was ugly propaganda. That would have turned me off instantly to anything Johnson had to say. In retrospect, I can now see how the man's Hillary support was simply a clever cover to disrupt and sow mistrust about Democrats in general, a variation on Limbaugh's Operation Chaos.

Birds of a feather. Ugh.
