Coal mine in the Kimberley on the Mighty Fitzroy river (e action B4 election day)

https://www.wilderness.org.au/articles/save-fitzroy-stop-fossil-fools

Did you hear? The first proposal for a coal mine in the Kimberley on the Mighty Fitzroy river has just been announced. Now is the time for you to have your say on the Rey Resources - Public Environmental Review (environmental impact assessment) for the ‘Duchess Paradise’ coal mine, open for public comment until Easter.

At every stage, this mine has the potential to be an environmental and public health disaster. If this project gets government approval it is likely to be the first of many polluting coal mines in the spectacular Kimberley region.

This small company has no mining experience, but wants to dig the first coal mine in the Kimberley, threatening two National Heritage-listed sites - the iconic Fitzroy River and unique King Sound. Rey Resources plans on mining 70 million tonnes of coal, generating 283 million tonnes of CO2 and using 4.1 million litres of water per day. For these and many more reasons, the mine must be rejected by the EPA and government.

Take action - make a submission now

1. Sign the easy petition: ccwa.org.au/nokimberleycoal OR

2. Write your own with the help of our Guide, and have your say on the EPA website.

Breaking news on Kimberley fracking:

Many thanks to the 80 individuals who send in an appeal against the EPA refusing to assess Kimberley fracking. Buru has been forced to put their drilling program on hold, which they were set to begin in just 8 weeks. GWN article, Mar 5th.

WA Senate re-election is on April 5th!

Due to votes being mis-counted, re-counted and court cases to sort it all out - it has been confirmed that there will be a WA senate re-election on Saturday, April 5th. We have another chance ensure that 'nature' gets the balance of power in the Senate. Please make the effort to get to a polling booth and support parties who have strong policies for protection of unique wildlife and our most special places.

Have you moved since the last election or need to vote from overseas? You have until 8pm WA time March 7th, to adapt your contact details. Find out more here: www.aec.gov.au/enrol/change-address

People power helped us win the campaign for a gas hub at James Price Point, we can do the same with this proposal for a coal mine close to the banks of the mighty Fitzroy river,

Yours for the nature of the Kimberley,

Jenita Enevoldsen and the Kimberley Wilderness Team
