CBS' Sunday news program will reportedly only feature Republicans to discuss the crisis in Ukraine.
On the March 7 edition of CBS' This Morning, Face the Nation guest host Charlie Rose announced that the "main topic" of the upcoming show would be the crisis in Ukraine. Rose also revealed that the guests the show will feature are all Republicans: Vice President Dick Cheney, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), and James Baker, who was chief of staff and secretary of treasury under President Reagan and secretary of state under President George H.W. Bush:
Republicans have used the crisis in Ukraine to attack President Obama's foreign policy, including CBS' upcoming guests. Cheney attacked the President this week when asked about Putin's action, "I think that Barack Obama has conducted himself in a way consistently for the past five years that conveys a real sense of weakness." While Ryan appeared on Fox this week to blame the Russian invasion on Obama's foreign policy: Mitt was right, I think the president was incredibly naive on his Russia policy. His reset has been a total failure and I think this is what happens when a superpower projects weakness in its foreign and defense policy, agression fills that vaccum and I think that is what is happening right now.

"Paul Ryan, Pathological Liar"
January 23, 2013 |
"Last seen blaming urban voters (you know who hes talking about) for his and Mitt Romneys bitter November defeat, Rep. Paul Ryan returned to the prevaricating ways he made famous throughout the campaign on Tuesday. There were his silly lies about his marathon time, of course, and perhaps more serious, his serial lies in his acceptance speech at the Republican convention in Tampa, Fla., last August, on welfare, GM restructuring and the 2009 stimulus bill. Its hard to know exactly what words to use to describe his campaign appearance helping at a soup kitchen that turned out to be a photo op showing him scrubbing already clean pots and pans, but honest isnt one of them.
Now Ryan is trying to squirm out of the lasso in which the president captured him in his inaugural address Monday. The commitments we make to each other through Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security, these things do not sap our initiative, they strengthen us, Obama said with indignation. They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great.
Everyone who followed the 2012 campaign knew Obama was talking about Ryan as surely as if hed said his name."

(9,893 posts)This line-up is more to the right than usual.
Walter Cronkite would not fit in there now, and it is a pity.
Their ratings are also poor.

(9,893 posts)These days, there's very little fair and balanced on any of the networks, IMHO.
MSNBC and Al Jazeera are to the left. CBS and FOX are to the right, although I think that CBS is a little more respectable than the trash on FOX. I see CNN in the middle somewhere.
Now, fair and balanced means that you use your remote a lot.
Most folks are in the choir and want to be preached to these days, and the networks are businesses looking for revenue, not pillars of the journalism profession.
I wish that it were otherwise, though.

(9,893 posts)I know she's not a fave here, but you might want to consider watching this particular show.
Her guests, who represent countries which were formerly part of the Soviet Union and have significant Russian minorities, might have a interesting perspective on the situation.
