(205,347 posts)I'm in AA and, though I'm a liberal atheist, it taught me how to get and stay sober. In April, I'll have five years. (One Day at a Time, still... *sigh*) "Don't quit until the miracle happens!" It took me a really long time to "get it," and I keep going to meetings because I need to remember where drinking brought me...

That said, I want to chime in that no matter what anyone may try to pass off to you as some sort of gospel, "shop-worn" absolute truth, there are many different roads.
The above-referenced one works for some people. Other ways work for others.
Don't let anyone bully you into thinking there is only one way.
