Farewell True Detective. Your last episode nearly ruined you for me

That final episode was a failure of such magnitude that it made me wonder if the first 7 had actually been crap and I was under some weird spell.

It was hackneyed and hurried. It was a plot failure. There was this sped up redemption thing going on. The dialogue seemed largely clunky and melodramatic.

Can't remember when I liked a finale less- oh, that's because I never have.

Grade for the finale: F

Grade for the entire series: B-

I loved the ending! But I'm a sentimental fool, and maybe that made the difference. There was closure, and on all fronts. I thought it took care of the plot very neatly.

I didn't know what to expect.

Oh well.

got too gimmicky with it like a lot of shows do. It had a sense of realness about kinda solving the case, but not getting a complete victory. Which seems to be the way the world works. One thing I don't get is the way they seemed to have been dropping lots of clues of possible plot points, but never followed through with them.

Hope HBO learns from this and that next year is better in its arc and conclusion.

As I understand it, this will return with a different story and different main detectives each year. I like that concept in that it will attract high end talent for a limited engagement, allowing them to pursue other projects as well.

I hate being disappointed in a series finale (or a series final season like Dexter).

Breaking Bad was, in my opinion, the best series finale ever.

redemption was real. They were clunky in life and were more human in the end. But it was a fairly shattering piece of drama...the entire series. I was hoping they would be back next season, but that's an interesting concept to have new detectives for each case. I couldn't watch the violence so dvr is wonderful for jumping over scenes.

People were actually comparing it to Breaking Bad in terms of quality which is utterly ridiculous.

The show was good but barely even in the top 10 HBO shows of all time let alone all time, all time.

Episode 4 and maybe 5 were top notch quality. The rest was just regular good.
