http://activism.thenation.com/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=13438&tag=email438&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=master&utm_campaign=Activism-%20Church%20Committee&utm_content=FinalTo the United States Senate:
"Senator Dianne Feinstein's allegations that the CIA spied on a Senate investigation of torture under the Bush administration raise serious questions regarding the separation of powers and Congress's ability to monitor our intelligence agencies. However, the allegations are only the latest in a series of revelations that reveal that United States' intelligence agencies have overstepped their bounds. From our country's actions in the years following 9/11 to the mass surveillance revealed by Edward Snowden, the need for an independent investigation into our intelligence agencies has become crystal clear.
"Recently, Frederick A.O. Schwarz Jr., the chief counsel for the Church Committee, called for a "new Church Committee," one that would serve as "a new nonpartisan, fact-based and comprehensive investigation of our secret government." The need for more comprehensive scrutiny of our intelligence operations becomes more apparent every day. As members of the United States Senate, we urge you to take his advice and launch an independent investigation into our intelligence agencies."

as speaking for the ideals that Senator Dianne Feinstein has demonstrated to us as being her own.

Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ), a progressive who sits on the House Select Committee on Intelligence,
said 5 years ago:
"It has been a few decades since Congress took a comprehensive inquiry into the intelligence committee's impact on the relationship between the individual and her or his government,
as well as the role the U.S. plays in other countries around the world, outside of declared military activities."
