Du Pont heir accused of raping 2nd child in lawsuit

WILMINGTON, Del. — A du Pont family heir who raped his 3-year-old daughter nearly a decade ago but received no prison time now faces a lawsuit from his former wife that accuses him of sexually abusing his toddler son.

Robert H. Richards IV, 47, who is supported by a trust fund and who paid $1.8 million for his 5,800-square-foot mansion near Winterthur Museum, pleaded guilty in 2008 to fourth-degree rape of his daughter. Currently on probation, he has never been charged with crimes against his son.

The lawsuit provides in-depth details about a child rape case that Delaware authorities never disclosed publicly and did not receive media attention.

Richards is a scion of two prominent Delaware families — the du Pont family who built the chemical empire and the Richards family who co-founded the prestigious corporate law firm Richards Layton & Finger. Du Pont family patriarch Irenee du Pont is his great grandfather. His father, Robert H. Richards III, was a partner in the law firm until his 2008 retirement.

One set of rules for us, and another set for the upper crust. Leaving their children unprotected in this case. I hope something approaching justice will be done this time.

rape a three year old child. I'm sure glad I don't have to struggle to control impulses like that.

even if you read junior high civics texts, you glean the fact that it was created with a different set of rules than the other 12 colonies.

Hello.

I'm new here. I am a Liberal, and a member of the Move On movement. I saw this story like everyone else. I am offended at the sentenced. People who break traffic violations get more jail time then this man. Everyone remembers that case in Texas. Where that kid killed four people in a car wreck. His lawyers argued pretty much he was born rich. Didn't know the outcome of his actions. Instead of sent to prison. He was sent to a luxury resort.

In this situation. A man rapes his own daughter for two years. The judge cites "He would not fare well in Prison" instead "he would benfit more from sex offenders programs" I disagree with that. I believe you do too. I want turn words into action. I kindly ask you sign my petition I started to hold the Judge that allowed him to get his light sentence accountable. For Justice for the Victim, and to make sure the super rich cannot buy their way out of jail. Break this before it becomes the new normal. If it fails. At least we tried.
