Do the teacher bashers know about sub plans?

I teach first grade and am sick with a cold. Monday and Tuesday I said I was not sick enough to make substitute plans. Of course I became too sick to work. Yesterday and today I was in my classroom at 6 am till 8, making good plans and laying out everything needed. Is there any other job where one works an extra 2 hours in order to not be present? This a.m. the plans would not print, so the sub has to read them off the laptop screen.

I used to wonder that myself, what other job requires work to not go to work? NYC_SKP Mar 2014 #1

I'm sure there are several, but none come to mind that have so much riding on it:

30 kids, sometimes 30 per hour times six periods, who need meaningful work to do, all to be coordinated by a perfect stranger.

I hated it. But I always made great sub plans.

I had a co-teacher, however, who could fit his on a post-it note.

He was a history "specialist". And he thought that Julius Caesar was named after having been born by Caesarian section.

Sigh.

I can't take a sick day, vacation day or personal day without working hours extra in advance ... but .... just because it happens does NOT make it right!
