Lincoln woman with 12 kids sentenced in meth case

LINCOLN (AP) — A 46-year-old Lincoln woman with nine children and three stepchildren has been given 10 years in prison for possessing methamphetamine.

Online court records say Diane Holbrook was sentenced Wednesday by Lancaster County District Judge Paul Merritt Jr. She was sentenced as a habitual criminal, so she won’t qualify for any good-time credit.

Records say Holbrook also is known as Diane Grandel.

She’d pleaded no contest to allegations that she had meth in her bedroom and in her clothing when officers searched her apartment July 31.

6. When I was young quite a few mothers used "diet/pep pills"

Nobody thought anything about it. Dexadrene, Dexamil, or Benzadrene were very common. They are all basically the same thing as Methadrine. Kids grew up just fine and most mothers that used those drugs got over them with no apparent ill effects.

8. Those amphetamines have been made

almost impossible to get, legally or otherwise, because some people abused them. Now we have this shitty backwoods meth everywhere. Does anyone really believe we're better off?

During Prohibition, there were people who celebrated when people died or went blind from drinking tainted booze. I believe there are some of the same kind of people running (and cheering on) the war on drugs today.

She needs medical intervention, not lockup in the for profit prison system.

I'm no fan of meth but isn't it the equivalent of bathtub gin during prohibition? Wouldn't she fare better with a doctor managing her symptoms with prescription amphetamines and therapy?

Sad story. Nobody wins. Especially the kids.
