Crimea has effectively been part of Russia all along, with the vast majority of citizens considering themselves Russian, with a strong military presence there all along, and with Crimea continuing to base Russia's Black Sea Fleet uninterrupted since the USSR broke up.

We act like Crimea is the Falkland Islands or something. It is on Russia's border and has effectively been part of Russia for a long time.
