Spring is coming! For the first time in nearly two months the long range forecasts are for above normal temperatures. So after what is hopefully the last gasp of Winter on Tuesday night (2"-4" of snow), the trends all look for a warm-up in the East for the following 7 days. This Winter has been a tough one (and expensive) in the Midwest, mid-Atlantic and New England. This looks like a welcome respite on its way. Here comes the Sun! or at least warmer temperatures.

(2,419 posts)this shows projected barometric pressures and atmospheric heights. This map predicts a nice seasonably mild high pressure system pumping warm air into the Ohio Valley and Northeast on Southwest winds. That low over Nebraska will probably mean strong to severe thunderstorms for Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

(2,419 posts)the measurement of atmospheric heights. The higher the temperatures, the higher the heights. Colder air is denser so the same barometric pressure will have lower heights when its cold than when it is warm. I think this particular map is based on the altitude where 500 mb of pressure will be found. The higher the heights (more towards the yellow/orange) the higher the anticipated temperatures.
