There's only one abortion provider left in the entire state of Missouri

and the Republican-controlled Legislature just introduced 32 different bills aimed at shutting it down.^1

...

Abortion rights are under attack in dozens of states. In fact, 2013 nearly broke the all-time record for the most new restrictions on abortion passed in a single year, with 22 states passing a whopping 70 different anti-choice laws.^2

But Missouri is on the verge of becoming the only state in the country with zero abortion clinics -- where safe and legal abortion has literally disappeared. And since abortion providers have also been nearly chased out of Texas, Mississippi, and several other states, we're looking at an entire region of the country on the verge of effectively overturning Roe v. Wade.

But we can win in Missouri, because voters there aren't nearly as anti-woman as the legislature. Remember Todd Akin? He was the Missouri Senate candidate who said, "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

True, KC is at the western edge, but the neighboring state is Kansas. Good luck trying to find one there.

I don't understand why PP in Columbia couldn't find another doctor.

This will hurt poor women. Rich women will not have a problem at all. Even middle class women will find a way. Don't they understand this? Let them do a little research on what happened before Roe when some states legalized abortion, and neighboring states didn't. I know this was very common between NJ (illegal) and NY (legal) back then.

Abandoned babies. Nobody talks about that one before Roe. Unwanted babies were left, everywhere, and many died because of where they were left. If these babies survived, they became wards of the state, and put in orphanages. Just recently there was a young woman who was looking for her birth mother. She had been left as a newborn in a Burger King restroom. Why? Her birth mother did not want her, and probably doesn't still today.

If you cannot learn from the past, you will be doomed to repeat it. Do they really think that these unwanted born babies will be accepted and live happier after after. If the past is any indication, probably NO.

The legislation put forward by these types shows a clear pattern, and it doesn't demonstrate any concern for either.

Bad enough we gave up fighting fundies efforts to pick away at womens rights, we now welcome anti-equality views... Even here at DU anti-choice and anti-equality views are welcome.

It is so very fucked up.
