I couldn't help but have flashbacks to when George W. Bush was on a similar stage and the thought made me shudder because about the only thing we could have been sure of is that whatever he said would have been half-baked. Tonight I will sleep soundly.

Thinking about GWB on the world stage. I feel warm inside at how world leaders seem to respect and like Obama, compared to what they used to have to deal with! Yet the teleprompter jokes and "empty suit" accusations continue.

1) A new Cold War for all their MIC buddies.
2) Effective coup in Ukraine effecting Russia's economic standing
3) The ability to influence US policy
4) Access to Ukraines natural gas so they can sell it to Europe and line their pockets and those of their oil buddies.
5) Air time to spew their talking points and make themselves seem important.

The fact is Obama shouldn't have had a neocons wife stationed in Ukraine handing out cookies and being recorded saying "fuck the EU". He has alienated we on the hard left once again with this new Cold War BS and the name calling is not proper statesmanship. Obama should have prosecuted the neocons ages ago instead of giving them a free pass for their Iraq crimes.

No one needs to worry about alienating the hard left. If anything, one has to worry about being identified with it, or more precisely, confused with it, in the mind of the public at large. A general sense among the public that 'the left' is un-American if not actively anti-American, which whether actively felt at any particular time or not can be effectively appealed to and rapidly roused in political campaigns, is the chief reason why left and progressive policies are seen as not politically feasible, and why the left is perpetually on the defensive in our political life.

They seldom vote at all, being of the view that there is no appreciable difference between Democrats and Republicans, and that there is nothing to be gained by voting for one side or another from a serious leftist perspective.

exclusive. Hard left by today's political standards overlaps the new deal quite nicely. Pointing that out is hardly to "brindle". Its a thing to be proud of, even if our imprecise and highly hyperbolized use of terminology means we often misunderstand or misinterpret each other.

The person I replied to declared himself to be of the 'hard left', and by his postings here seems to fit older definitions of the term.

I agree that there has a been a rightward creep of the political spectrum here, so that views that would have been center-left, or even center-right, in my youth, can now be presented, at least, as well to the left of center.

You will see the need to oppose and balk the most reactionary elements, and will hardly decide that this distant matter in central Europe is grounds for depriving a left-of-center coalition of your vote, considering the likely domestic consequences of a rightist victory in the national legislature.

but the only cold war that exists is in neo-con minds.
The coup will last as long as the velvet revolution
No one is listening to their talking points - Americans know what Bushco did to their sons and daughters with the never ending treks to war, and they are now coming to terms with the global loss of credibility.

The good news about the neo-cons is that they are rank amateurs and among the most vulgar of war profiteers.

I see headlines about it as Karl "calling out" Obama and "asking tough questions" and the like. I was listening to the press conference and didn't catch the name when Karl began his "questions." Hearing him I thought, who is this idiot, sounds like Fox News. Then I looked at the screen and there was his smug face spouting his usual nasty Republican talking points. I know I shouldn't watch ABC News because I get too angry when the entire story is footage of Jon asking his dumb question at a press conference and then standing in front of the White House smirking about how bad Obama is as squirrels run around behind him.

Jon Stewart Blasts Fox New’s Traitorous, Hypocritical Praising of Putin (VIDEO)

On The Daily Show Thursday night, Jon Stewart ripped the Fox News network’s near-orgasmic love-fest with Russian President Vladimir Putin and pointed out the hypocrisy of the GOP propaganda channel calling Putin a “real leader” while referring to President Obama as a “dictator” for supposedly doing the same sorts of things.

Stewart asked, “What happened to these people as children that has enabled this love-hate relationship with authoritarian figures and the inherent cognitive dissonance that goes along with such a schism?”

Stewart also highlighted the embellished stories about Putin’s supposed toughness, mentioning the story about Putin shooting a tiger that had been trapped and put to sleep.

“For God’s sakes,” he said. “How, in a 24-hour news cycle, do you upgrade Putin from wrestling bears to tigers, anyhow? By tomorrow, it’ll be, ‘Putin once smacked the teeth out of a great white shark and made it blow him, while Barack Obama just sat there, wistfully, wearing Capri pants and a baby bonnet.”

He then mocked Sean Hannity for fawning over a picture of a shirtless “big, strong muscular” Putin riding a horse while President Obama is pictured riding a bike with a safety hat on.
