We're in Ohio, a union town of about 650,000 that's been taken over by Repubs masquerading as Independents. We've spent some time in AA over the years and always enjoyed ourselves.
We're both retired and have no reason to stay here - no children, and our families seldom contact us, so it's time to go elsewhere. We both love cold weather, so going a bit north is fine.
We found several apartment complexes for active 55+, and they're reasonable. There's a wait list, but we need to put our house up for sale.
We're going there for a weekend when the weather breaks to look around. We're also looking at these apartments, not 55+, but they're right downtown and WoW:

Any advice would be appreciated, TIA.

Also, while AA is bicycle friendly, some of the cyclists can be inconsiderate of pedestrians on the sidewalk. Otherwise, I'm proud to call Ann Arbor my hometown for 41 years.
Arbor Brewing and Grizzly Peak are 2 bars downtown you should check out.

We are all from the Detroit area, and know Ann Arbor. My brother went to school at Michigan and though it has been a long time, I am sure it is a great place to be. If I had to live in the Midwest again ... Ann Arbor would be a place to consider.
I spent my high school years in Ohio. I have no desire to ever return.

It's been a long time. But I like a Fresser. Not sure what number it is on the menu.
Pig out. Oink! Oink! (Yup. I know pork isn't kosher. But kosher only says one should not eat pig, not vice versa.)

(2,073 posts)Ann Arbor for the most part *is* the University of Michigan, so activity around town tends to ebb and flow with the academic calendar. You will quickly learn about home game Saturdays. It has a wonderful downtown and some great restaurants.
I love it there and if an opportunity came up to live or work there again, I would take it.
