They do well to point out the intersections of government and corporations. For that I thank them.
Unfortunately, they appear to be of the belief that the problem is government regulation of corporations, and that it is the government, by doing the bidding of corporations, that prevents the natural corrective mechanisms of the market from fixing things.
I could not disagree more with this.
It's true that regulations are often written at the behest of lobbyists for large corporations, adversely impacting smaller competition. I've seen this very specifically in my own area, large corporate dairies got new dairy regulations put in place, which required expensive equipment only the large corporate dairies could afford. As a result, a huge percent of our local, family owned dairies either went out of business or sold their dairies at very low cost to the same corporations behind the regulations.
So it does happen. It's a misdiagnosis, however. The problem isn't the government, it's the influence corporate money has over government. For the most part, corporations still want as little regulation as possible, and well-regulated capitalism, while far from perfect, works fairly well.
An unfettered free market is the absolutely wrong direction to head in. Markets have no concern whatsoever for human health and welfare, and environmental health has no place on corporate ledgers.
So as much as I like these diagrams, I view this site with suspicion.
